Bad news! Universal has just postponed again the releases of 3 of its blockbusters: Fast & Furious 9, The Croods 2 and Minions 2: Once Upon a Time Gru. While Paramount has decided to advance the date of Sans un bruit 2 (May 26, 2021 instead of September 8) and Sony Pictures postpones from July 21 to 7, the continuation of the adventures of Pierre Lapin, Universal Pictures announces the postponement of the release of 3 of its films. Indeed, the studio has just announced that Fast & Furious 9 will now be released on June 30, 2021 instead of May 26.It is recalled that Justin Lin's film was scheduled for May 20, 2020 before the pandemic. In this opus that promises impressive stunts, Dom (Vin Diesel) will have to face his brother, played by John Cena. And it's not all about postponements. Scheduled for last December, The Croods 2: A New Era was to be released in theaters as soon as cinemas reopen on April 7. However, Universal France has just announced the modification of its plans: the continuation of the adventures of the prehistoric family was postponed to July 7, 2021. This is undoubtedly one of the consequences of the announcement of Olivier Véran who specified Thursday at his press conference that theaters will not reopen at least before mid-April. Released in cinemas across the Atlantic in November and a month later on VOD, the animated feature film totaled 154 million green billers at the box office. The film from Dreamworks studios takes the place of Minions 2: Once Upon a Time Gru. And to finish the sad list of ports, the continuation of the adventures of the Minions is again shifted by a year internationally. Indeed, initially scheduled for July 2020, the feature film from Illumination studios has been moved to July 2021 because of the production delay due to the first lockdown. Universal will now release the film by Kyle Balda, Brad Ableson and Jonathan Del Val on July 6, 2022 on French screens. It is in the 70s that takes place the second opus of the spin-off of Despicable Me. This time, the viewer will have the chance to know the story of the young Gru and his Minions. Xavier Albert, CEO of Universal France said that this postponement is due to the health crisis affecting the global box office:
"Given the high potential of the film and the franchise in general, it's best to wait for a more stable situation to release it. »
There is no doubt that the current situation for our cinemas is more than disastrous. Let's hope that our theaters will reopen (very) soon to be able to discover these blockbusters as well as many other films. To make you wait a little longer, we invite you to (re)watch the trailer of Minions 2: https://youtu.be/52jA_v-2qGs
