Peter Jackson is a man who always has many projects. He announced last June that the Lord of the Rings series was not one of those. Eventually, the filmmaker said he was willing to help the series if needed.

While Netflix and Disney parade in the light, Amazon is working hard. The American streaming platform is preparing an ambitious series, with a budget close to a billion dollars. For five seasons, certainly. But the show still promises to be breathtaking. Last year, Amazon won the rights to adapt the Lord of the Rings universe against Netflix. The contract cost $250 million. In comparison, the amount of the Lord of the Rings trilogy directed by Peter Jackson amounts to $ 280 million. Amazon promises a new blockbuster series. It will be either a prequel to The Hobbit, or a spin-off. The show should see the light of day by 2020 or 2021 on Amazon Prime Video.

And Peter Jackson?

The universe created by J.A.A. Tolkien is strongly marked by Peter Jackson's paw. The director has indeed brought to the screen The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Nevertheless, he will not direct the Amazon series. The filmmaker explained to IGN Germany that he did not want to be responsible for this project."I've never been responsible for a [long-run] series like this before in my career. So it wouldn't be very smart if I took on the role of showrunner. Peter Jackson had announced at the beginning that he did not want to be involved in the development of the series. He eventually reversed his decision. The director makes himself available to the creative team as a consultant. He proposed, among other things, to review the scripts' scripts."I wish them all the best and if we can help them, we will definitely do it. It is a very ambitious project. »

Amazon is therefore preparing a great project that should delight fans. The series has considerable resources and Peter Jackson supports the production. The director is currently promoting his film Mortal Engines, in theaters on December 12.
