The late actor received widespread praise for his performances in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Da 5 Bloods, both streamed on Netflix.
For all of us, the news of Chadwick Boseman 's death was an immense sadness. The actor passed away at the age of only 43 due to cancer. From December 18, we will have the chance to see him on Netflix in his latest film entitled Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. This is the biopic of a blues singer, played by Viola Davis, in which musician Levee, played by Boseman, plays an important role. And, according to American sites specializing in the field of cinema such as Variety, the performance of the actor could allow him to be awarded a posthumous Oscar. Variety is even counting on a double nomination in the Oscar category for best supporting actor for Boseman, bluffing in Da 5 Blodds, by Spike Lee, also broadcast on the streaming platform since last June. Variety wrote: "Of the 94 minutes of Ma Rainey's Bottom, Boseman has the best moments and the most narrative weight.(…) He could perfectly well become the first actor to be nominated for two Oscars in the same year posthumously." The magazine reminds us that James Dean had been entitled to two consecutive nominations after his death, for East of Eden and Giant, but that they had taken place two years in a row, in 1956 and 1957.
