For the first time in Oscar history, an Italian song was nominated in the "Best Original Song" category. The singer Laura Pausini played on the notes of "Io sì (Seen)", soundtrack of the film "La vie devant soi", on the stage of the Academy.

Laura Pausini – already winner of a Golden Globe, a Grammy Award and the 4 Latin Grammy Awards – didn't win the 2021 Oscar, but she brought home a dream. An incredible dream. The singer, nominated in the category "Best Original Song" with "Io sì (Seen)" – category won by "Fight for you" by H.E.A. of the film "Judas and the Black Messiah" – shared his impressions of this unique experience via social networks. "Being part of such a special project as 'The Life Ahead' with Edoardo Ponti and Sophia Loren has been one of the greatest gifts life has to offer me. To have sung "Io sì (Seen)" in Italian, on the stage of the Academy, is a dream I could never have hoped for. Even more to realize it in such a historic edition," the artist wrote.

Thanks from Laura Pausini

Laura then continued with the thanks: "I thank Diane Warren, for our song and for all the achievements. First of all, the Golden Globe: it was an incredible experience to work together! Thanks to Bonnie Greenberg and Niccolò Agliardi! Thank you Palomar, thank you Netflix. I have always felt at home with you. I return to Italy happy to have had an experience. A unique experience born from an important message that I fully share. And the great passion that after twenty-eight years I still have for music, which is not only my job, but my reason for living."  The singer accompanied the post with two photos. The first, with her very elegant black dress worn for the ceremony – an exclusive creation by Valentino Alta Moda made especially for the occasion by the artistic director Pierpaolo Piccioli in double silk and gazar wool. The second, smiling, holding a hamburger. A tradition of Laura to celebrate, also despite the defeat, an extraordinary and unforgettable evening for her artistic career. For all of Italy. "I return to Italy happy to hug my little girl who is waiting for me, […] I'm going to tell him the dream of a night … unbelievable." Laura Pausini

The 5 versions of «Io sì (Seen)»

The song, written by Diane Warren (author for artists of the calibre of Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Cher), by Niccolò Agliardi and by the same Pausini, was published last October in 5 languages : Italian, Spanish, French, English and Portuguese. However, the Italian version was inserted in the credits of "The Life Ahead – La vie devant soi".

The film "The Life Ahead – La vie devant soi"

The film, available on Netflix since November 6, was shot in Bari, a city in southern Italy, and tells the story of Madame Rose (played by the great Sophia Loren). A former prostitute, Holocaust survivor, who decided to take in children of other prostitutes in her own home. Among the latest arrivals, there is Momo (played by the young talent Ibrahima Gueye). A turbulent child, orphaned and of Senegalese origin, who gives him a lot of pain. At first, their relationship is rather confrontational. But, over time and also thanks to the help of doctor Cohen (played by Renato Carpentieri), an unexpected and deep friendship will be born between the two. An exciting and intense film, directed by Edoardo Ponti – son of the great Sophia Loren. A story of integration based on the 1975 novel of the same name written by Romain Gary and enriched by the voice of Laura Pausini who filled hearts with optimism and beauty with the song "Io sì (Seen)".
