On the occasion of the 34th edition of the Cabourg Festival, which was held despite the situation, Première was able to exchange with Nicolas Bedos on OSS 117: Red Alert in Black Africa. If he has multiple hats, from the actor to that of comedian or screenwriter, it is for that of director that Nicolas Bedos is expected with the new adventures of agent OSS 117. Indeed, he had already been successful, with his two films, Monsieur et Madame Adelman and La Belle Époque. Then, Guy's son announced in 2019 to be at the helm of this third part. And it must be said that going after the two cult films of Michel Hazanavicius will not be easy. But he will be able to count on Jean Dujardin as well as the screenwriter Jean-François Halin, already at work on Cairo, nest of spies and Rio no longer answers.
OSS 117 is back
Nevertheless, Nicolas Bedos said he was delighted to be able to make this film despite, that it is not what he is "used to doing":
OSS is not only floodgates and jokes, but also a great tribute to cinema[…] and therefore to pay tribute to Spielberg, Zemeckis and all the entertainers of my adolescence […] It's very joyful.
And the filmmaker knows it well, the agent of La Bath, played by Jean Dujardin will not please everyone:
OSS 117 is such a complete satire of the asshole. Yes, there is bound to be outrage. But we are totally ready with all the sincerity and benevolence of the world to answer all the questions, because it is a satire. All subjects are approached through the prism of mockery and it would seem difficult to point the finger at this or that […] It's inflated. It's a bit scary. I've spent two or three years of my life on television scaring myself a little and now I'm scared like before.
Bedos ends this short interview, answering the question "what does this story tell?" :
He [Hubert Bonisseur de La Bath] went to save a regime in Françafrique in the 1980s. And in particular to help the president gain the upper hand over the rebels. It's a bad fight. And he's going to lose it.
The release of this OSS 117: Red Alert in Black Africa is currently scheduled for February 2021 in our cinemas.
