New superheroic projects for Fox

Marvel in cinema is a complex universe. First there are the films of the MCU chronology, with the Avengers and other Guardians of the Galaxy. But on the other hand, it is also the films owned by 20th Century Fox, including the X-men saga and that of the Fantastic 4, which hold the attention of fans, these works are not part of the official chronology. And while the purchase of the rights to Fox by the Disney studios could jeopardize the plans previously established, let's take a look at future superheroic projects.

Deadpool

Films already confirmed for the years to come

Next May will be rich in emotions, the continuation of the saga orchestrated by Fox, Deadpool 2, being announced for the 16th. A sequel eagerly awaited by fans of the controversial superhero adept at the destruction of the fourth wall (a situation in which the character realizes that he is in a work and that he has an audience) who will see the debut of the villain Cable, played by Josh Brolin. The second film of 2018 will tell the story of Jean Grey's first solo adventure: Dark Phoenix. Already appeared in Bryan Singer's adaptations of X-men , she will be played by Sophie Turner, the actress of Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones. Very often underestimated, Jean Grey / Dark Phoenix is nevertheless one of the most powerful mutants in the X-men universe. A film that will be on the screens on October 31st.

Dark Phoenix

According to The Hollywood Reporter, six films will be expected in theaters in 2019 and 2020, three films per year around X-Men. In 2019, some films are already confirmed. This is particularly the case for the highly anticipated The New Mutants, whose release originally scheduled for this year, was recently postponed by ten months for a good cause. Reshoots of the film will allow the appearance of a new character, with fans speculating on Warlock. It will be necessary to wait until February 14 and a new trailer to see what the production has transformed on his film, carried among others by Maisie Williams, another star of Game Of Thrones. A second film confirmed for next year, X-Force, will begin production next fall and will see the return of its superstars Deadpool and Cable, still played by Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin. A degenerate and violent reunion of Avengers-style mutants already eagerly awaited for years but always postponed. The success of the first installment of Deadpool seems to have convinced the studios to produce such a story.

New projects will also be launched at Fox Studios

With the arrival of the X-Force, new mutants will be assigned a single-player adventure. Tim Miller, who brought to the screen Scott Pilgrim (for which he managed the special effects, the direction going to Edgar Wright) but especially the first opus of Deadpool, would currently be in pre-production for the film centered on Kitty Pryde, the mutant able to cross matter. Ellen Page, who had already played the character twice, says she is up for such a project:

"I loved playing Kitty Pryde, and (…) I wish I had done more. My participation in the films was not very big and he is a very good character. To be completely honest, I don't know anything about the movie but yes, of course, it's something I'd love to do, but I don't know." she told CinemaBlend.

Two other mutants would also have their spin-offs in production. That of Gambit, already planned for years, is once again on pause after the departure of director Gore Verbinski. Everything seemed to be rolling for the film, a schedule had been set and an actor found (Channing Tatum). A film that fans almost expect no more. The latest project for the spin-offs of the eponymous films is that of Multiple Man. For several months now, James Franco has been chosen for the title role and the film is being written by Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman). Appeared in 1975 at Marvel, Multiple Man is, as its name suggests, capable of splitting infinitely. The character has already appeared in cinema, played by Eric Dane in X-Men: The Final Clash

Multiple Man

But the X-Men aren't the only projects being studied.

Other projects around the Fantastic 4 are confirmed by the studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While the last reboot took a general taulé (2/5 according to the press and 1.9/5 according to the spectators on the site Allociné), the three projects will focus on other characters. Noah Hawley, screenwriter of Legion, would indeed write a film centered on the main antagonist Doctor Doom. A feature film centered on the children of the Elastic Man and the Invisible Woman is also planned, since already in writing by Seth Graham-Smith. Another film is also reportedly being written by Brian K. Vaughan, that of the Silver Surfer. The character had already been played in the film Fantastic 4 and the Silver Surfer in 2007. He is one of the pillars of the entire Marvel universe, maintaining close collaborations with Galactus (one of Marvel's most powerful antagonists), Thanos and the Guardians of the Galaxy. What augurs a cross-over?

Last December, Disney announced that it had bought the rights from Fox on these superheroes, and on all of 21st Century Fox. We remember that Disney, a few years ago, had in this way recovered the rights of Spider-Man from Sony Studios. A buyout that will not be effective until at least next year. Fox has not yet said its last word …

The projects carried out around the Mutants still seem to have very bright days ahead of them, Disney acquisition or not. While waiting to see all these projects come to fruition, you can find the new chapter of the adventures of Deadpool on May 16 and Dark Phoenix on October 31.
