Summer is here, accompanied by moments of glandouille that go with it! Netflix is always there to help you chill and with the month of July starting, it's a new selection of original (or cult) movies that land on your platform. Focus.
The original films:
The Skin of the Wolf (July 6)
Synopsis: A trapper isolated in his mountain decides that he has had enough of loneliness. He then decides to find a companion, although he lives alone in his village in northern Spain.
This is a funny synopsis, which can hide both a nugget and a terribly boring film. This kind of story usually only works if the treatment is impeccable, because of its particular subject. In addition, the isolation of this trapper will likely lead to isolation in the film. And it's always hard to capture attention with just one character. How will this film fare? Answer on July 6.
How it ends (July 13)
Synopsis: After an unexplained cataclysmic event, a man decides to cross the country to find his pregnant girlfriend.
How it ends offers a simple basic premise but, well developed, could result in a very sympathetic post-apocalyptic film. In addition to the atmosphere that seems rather well controlled, the presence of Forest Whitaker reinforces the potential of this film. Some images seem so spectacular that they deserve a passage through the dark rooms so that we can enjoy them even more. A work with great potential to discover from July 13th.
Extinction (July 17)
Synopsis: While an alien invasion is underway, a couple does everything possible to protect their family.
This sci-fi film was originally scheduled to be distributed by Universal Studios was eventually saved by Netflix from unexplained cancellation. This seems to be becoming a tradition for the streaming platform, which had saved Annihilation recently, or The Cloverfield Paradox. It seems that Netflix loves science fiction. In any case, it seems that films that must be forgotten are now more likely to be discovered by the public. Let's hope now that Extinction has earned its redemption and that it is a quality film.
Father of the Year (July 20)
Synopsis : Back in their hometown, two students ask themselves a small question: if their respective fathers fought, which one would win. A question that will quickly sow chaos…
This is a funny question that should lead to a funny movie. With the right treatment, Father of the Year should offer us a simple but entertaining film. The kind of work that we like to discover in summer to relax a little.
Me, beautiful and pretty (July 20)
Synopsis: after receiving a shock to the head, a young woman with a complexion now perceives herself as very pretty, which drastically changes her daily life.
This seems to be another simple but rather relevant comedy in this summer period. A conventional pitch (which should lead to an equally conventional film) but which should not prevent viewers from having a pleasant time in front of their TVs.
Cult films:
Fast & Furious (episodes 1-5)
We start not with a film but with a saga, since it is the first five episodes of Fast & Furious that landed on July 1, 2018. Enough to clear your head with well-felt car races, while finding the mythical duo Vin Diesel / Paul Walker.
Kingdom of Heaven (2005)
A little forgotten today but yet a small phenomenon at its release, Kingdom of Heaven is an adventure on the crusades, magnificently carried by Orlando Bloom. Its arrival on Netflix (also on July 1st) will be an opportunity to discover or rediscover this very well done work with a five-star cast (Orlando Blood, Liam Neeson, Eva Green, Jeremy Irons, Edward Norton… Bigre!).
To this selection of July 1st are added films such as Collateral, Fools of Irene, Desperados 2, The agency all risks and many others … On July 15, Love will arrive, while Insidious – Chapter 3 and The Seventh Son will land on July 18 and 26 respectively.
All you have to do is choose from this eclectic and probably quality selection. And if you are more series than movies, then you should also be served by the new releases!
