On Wednesday, October 3, the Twitter account of Netflix France published a very short tweet . These few words, however, were enough to create surprise and excitement. The American firm announces the return of the saga The World of Narnia.
Are you ready to walk through the closet doors and explore the vast world of Narnia? Eight years after the last film in the franchise (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Odyssey of the Ferryman of Dawn) and sixty-two years after the writing of the last volume, Netflix wants to revive the world of Aslan. The streaming service has signed a multi-year deal with The C.S. Lewis Company, the society of the author of Narnia. This contract states that the universe of C.S. Lewis will be declined both in series and films. Douglas Gresham, C.'s son-in-law.S. Lewis is thrilled with the collaboration:
"It's wonderful to know that people around the world are eager to see more about Narnia. Netflix seems to be the best medium to achieve this goal, and I look forward to working with them."
A complete reboot of the franchise
This is the first time that the same production company owns the rights to all of C's novels.S. Lewis. The seven novels will surely all be adapted, in one format or another. The silver chair, the sixth adventure in the world of Narnia, was already in the cards of Mark Gordon and Joe Johnston. This adaptation, however, is part of Netflix's project. Indeed, Mark Gordon, Douglas Gresham and Vincent Sieber have been announced as executive producers of the series and producers of the upcoming films. As specified by Les Inrocks, Amazon Prime, direct rival of Netflix, is working on an adaptation of the Lord of the Rings saga. It is likely that the acquisition of the World of Narnia is a desire to compete with Amazon in the field of heroic fantasy.
No schedule is announced, but viewers are ready to see Narnia in the coming years. As Netflix Executive Chef Ted Sarandos points out, "Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the world of Narnia. We are very pleased to welcome them for years to come. »
