After years of uphill battle, Mute will be released on February 23 on Netflix
Duncan Jones, son of singer David Bowie and model Angela Barnett is passionate about science fiction. He directed Source Code in 2011 with Jake Gyllenhaal and Warcraft in 2016. Despite this brilliant career, his very first desire to direct a feature film was born with Mute, a script he wrote in the early 2000s.
After several attempts at production, he sent Mute to Sam Rockwell known for his role as a psychopath in The Green Line. The actor-producer loves the script and wants to play the lead role. Duncan Jones would eventually write another feature film specifically for S. Rockwell; Mute was therefore suspended for Moon (2009).
More than ten years pass with other successful productions and finally, the much desired screenplay, co-written with Michael Robert Johnson, screenwriter of Sherlock Holmes, is validated by a production.
Mute is set in a black futuristic society. Leo, a bartender who became mute following an accident in his childhood is drawn into an underground world, "The city's seedy, neon world". When his girlfriend disappears, he decides to go looking for her.
Alexander Skarsgard who plays the role of Eric Northman in the series True Blood plays Leo. In his investigation, he repeatedly meets two American surgeons played by Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux.
After many years of relentless research, Duncan Jones sees his film born thanks to Netflix, a viewing platform for moviegoers and cinevores.Like Terry Gilliam and his Don Quixote (apocalyptic shoot whose bonuses turned into a sublime documentary), D. Jones did not let go of his first desire for a feature film, so this long-term marathon has finally paid off.
We will be able to live Duncan Jones' film from February 23, 2018 on our small and big screens!
