The ex Doctor moves from one science fiction universe to another. According to the American magazine Variety, Matt Smith would have joined the cast of Star Wars 9 alongside Daisy Ridley, Jon Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver and Mark Hamill…
He is a major actor who joins the last opus of this trilogy. Revealed in 2010 by the cult series Doctor Who (of which he was the 11th figure), Matt Smith was also seen in Terminator Genisys and, more recently, in the series The Crown where he played Prince Philip. If we do not yet know which character the actor will play for Star Wars, it seems (still according to Variety) that it is a major role. The bets are therefore open:
- Will it be a good guy, a bad guy or a neutral character?
- Will he be a Force user?
- Will he have a decisive role in the final confrontation between the First Order and the Rebellion?
Even if there is a good chance that his role will remain secret for a while, no doubt fans of the saga will have a great time regarding the theories. Matt Smith is currently expected at the Venice Film Festival to present the film Charlie Says, in which he plays cult guru Charles Manson. Will he release new information on this occasion? Nothing is less certain but who knows…
It should be noted that rumors had already reported his presence in Star Wars 7 – The Force Awakens. Indeed, Smith would have met J.J Abrams when the latter was in full preparation of this opus. It must therefore be believed that this character is close to Abrams' heart when it comes to Star Wars continuity.
Star Wars 9 will land in our Galaxy on December 18, 2019, still under the direction of J.J Abrams, who will be replaced by director Victoria Mahoney. The least we can say is that this episode has work to do to make up for the shortcomings of episode 7 and to reconcile with the disappointed viewers of episode 8.
