Entering filming in the wake of the release of Batman vs Superman, Justice League has remained surprisingly silent since. Fortunately, the DC Comics Avengers was unveiled to the delight of a few handpicked journalists. Let's take a look at what we learned about what will undoubtedly be one of the cinema events of 2017.
With a disastrous situation where Warner had to compensate for the murderous returns issued against Batman vs Superman, while managing the expectations related to its other major project, in this case Suicide Squad, the question of communication quickly proved to be a question of survival for the major. It is therefore not surprising to see her draw only 2 months after the beginning of the shooting of what will be the flagship of her extended universe. And god knows that given the stakes (we are talking about the survival of the DC expanded universe), it was opportune for her, as much to ingratiate herself with the public as the press, to reveal behind the scenes and therefore inform about the film that Zack Snyder is currently shooting. That's good, since that's precisely what she did by opening to a few journalists, the doors of the studio in Leavesden, England, which hosts since April, the shooting of the film dedicated to the fine team of DC. And as usual with this kind of visit, we learned, saw and heard a lot.
The poster (teaser)
A white title on a black background. So far, nothing original to put in the tooth, if not the subtle use of a star, which is reminiscent of the virtuous aspect of Captain America's shield in the Marvel universe. Since we are in the presence of a teaser poster, it will be necessary to wait a few more months in order to obtain a more fleshed out visual.
The synopsis (and a fortiori the plot)
"After regaining faith in humanity, Bruce Wayne, inspired by Superman's selflessness, enlists the help of his new ally, Diana Prince, to confront an enemy more formidable than ever. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman soon recruit a team of metahumans to deal with this threat. Yet despite the strength of this unprecedented league of heroes – Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash – it may already be too late to save the planet from an apocalyptic attack."
Short, enigmatic and not really very revealing, as much to say that the synopsis unveiled by Zack Snyder perfectly fulfills his job of teasing. Nevertheless, reading between the lines and having spoken with Zack and Deborah Snyder, it is possible to assume several things. For one, the main antagonist could well be embodied by Steppenwolf. Briefly glimpsed in a scene cut from BvS, the latter is one of the lieutenants of Darkseid, a well-known villain of the DC Comics universe, whose presence had been strongly suggested during the so-called desert scene of BvS. Known for being ruthless on the battlefield, Steppenwolf is also immortal and endowed with unparalleled speed and power. Suffice to say that this character will remain a piece of this choice to lead the hard life to the league. However, it is still too early to say if yes or no he will be the only threat since we know recently that Jesse Eisenberg, who played the excellent and unpredictable Lex Luthor in BvS, will return to service. Held in a secret prison (Arkham Asylum?), perhaps Superman's best-known nemesis will manage to make the trunk and continue to play tricks on Batman?
Regarding history, complete silence. Insistent rumors, coupled with the words of the journalists present on site, mention the Mother Boxes as the pivot of the plot. These boxes, one of which appears at the time of Cyborg's "birth" in BvS, would indeed be 3 in number and would allow anyone who assembles them, to create a teleportation portal between two worlds. We would not be surprised if Steppenwolf, surrounded by the Parademons (the winged creatures seen in BvS), goes in search of them to bring in the bulk of Darkseid's troops. Fun fact, there is talk of the location of these 3 boxes : if one was used to "create" Cyborg, it seems that the other two are hidden on Atlantis (Aquaman's lair) and Wonder Woman's island. According to Collider, we also know how the film will open since Snyder has planned to start his film by showing a flashback where Zeus would explain the functioning and dangerousness of the "mother boxes".
The tone of the film
Even before the film's release, Zack Snyder's decidedly dark orientation had won over crowds; Some even claim that this would be one of the best superhero movies. 3 months later, the reality is unfortunately quite different since the public accuses Snyder's film of being too serious and less quick to the frank laughter established by Marvel. A cleavage to which the director saw fit to adapt, since it is already rumored that the tone of the film would be much brighter and conducive to lightness. To support his claims, the production would have reviewed his plans, even if it meant making the two films devoted to the Justice League completely independent. In this regard, Deborah Snyder confirmed that the team is working on 2 separate Justice League films and not one single film cut in half. Speaking of continuity, she explains: "All films fit into a chronology, but they are independent films. One can see one without the need to look at the other. They can operate separately. Each film has its own tone and all the films deal with different characters. Still, they all belong to the same movie universe and there are a few snippets of crossovers that we will see. But they are not essential to the story. The production also revealed the tenor of a scene between Ben Affleck (Batman) and the Flash (Ezra Miller). And according to the journalists present in the room, the said scene would reveal all the comic potential of Barry Allen, who would be relegated to the rank of side-kick by making up his true identity to the bat man, perfectly aware of the abilities of the young man.
New characters
With each new superheroic meeting, new faces are needed. And it is clear that Warner has seen things big. If we already know that the initial cast of BvS will be there, we know that Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man), Kristofer Hivju (Tormund from Game of Thrones) and J.K Simmons (Whiplash) have joined DC's elite troupe. The first will play Vulko, one of Aquaman's mentors, while the second will play a former king of Atlantis, Aquaman's vacation land. With regard to J.K Simmons, we will find him in the imper of Commissioner Gordon, another emblematic figure of the DC universe since leader of the police of Gotham City, the stronghold of the Batman.
