It's official!Killing Eve star Jodie Comer joins the cast of Ridley Scott's Kitbag. The actress will play the role of Empress Josephine, wife of Napoleon played by Joaquin Phoenix.
After recruiting the Joker to the cast of his new historical film, Ridley Scott turned to a hitwoman! Indeed, British actress Jodie Comer, famous for her role as Villanelle in the series Killing Eve (also awarded the Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series in 2019) joins Joaquin Phoenix in Kitbag. We note that Gladiator's Commode will find its director about 21 years later.
Jodie Comer will play Joséphine de Beauharnais, the wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. The feature film looks back at the origins and rise of the French Emperor through the prism of his relationship with his wife Joséphine. The choice of this actress may seem surprising especially when we know that the Empress Josephine was 6 years older than her husband Napoleon Bonaparte while Jodie Comer, born in 1993, is 19 years younger than her partner Joaquin Phoenix, aged 46.
Jodie Comer seems to be Ridley Scott's new muse. Indeed, according to Deadline, the director offered her the role directly after filming with her The Last Duel, an adaptation of the book The Last Duel: Paris, December 29, 1386 by Eric Jager. In this historical drama from 1386, Jodie Comer plays opposite Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Adam Driver. On the synopsis side, it is the story of a Norman knight who returns from the war. His wife accuses her best friend of raping her. The court then decided the fate of the prosecution by a fight between the two men. The film is expected to be released in our cinemas at the end of the year.
As for the shooting of Kitbag, it should begin after that of House of Gucci also directed by Ridley Scott and in which we will find Adam Driver again (fans will be delighted!). The actor will play Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of the House of Gucci murdered under the orders of his ex-wife played by Lady Gaga. Jared Leto and Al Pacino and French actress Camille Cottin will also be there. Filming is expected to begin shortly in Italy.
We can't wait to discover Kitbag, Ridley Scott's historical and promising feature film in which we will have the chance to meet Joaquin Phoenix and Jodie Comer. But, Ridley Scott being a very busy filmmaker, we will have to be patient!
