After having wonderfully embodied the Joker in the eponymous film released in 2019, actor Joaquin Phoenix will soon slip into the costume of Napoleon for "Kitbag". A biopic directed by Ridley Scott. It is Deadline that brings us the information: the Hollywood actor will play the role of the first Emperor of the French in the feature film Kitbag which will be directed by Ridley Scott. It is therefore an opportunity for us to find these two sacred monsters of cinema, 30 years after the peplum of Gladiator. Still according to the American site, the biopic will offer:
"an original and personal look at the origins of Napoleon and his rapid and ruthless rise to the title of emperor. A story that will be seen through the prism of his addictive and often unstable relationship with his wife and only true love Josephine."
Ridley Scott in great shape
Thus, Ridley Scott has the ambition to put in images "the famous battles of Napoleon. While capturing the relentless ambition and strategic spirit of the French military leader and war visionary." The least we can say is that Ridley Scott seems obviously very interested in the History of France. Indeed, in addition to the announcement of this biopic on Napoleon Bonaparte, the director has just completed the shooting of The Last Duel. His next film which returns to the judicial duel between Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon) and Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver) in 1386. The Last Duel is scheduled for release on October 13, 2021. We will therefore have to arm ourselves with patience to discover Joaquin Phoenix in the guise of Napoleon. The director is not expected to start production on his biopic until after shooting Gucci. Whose debut is scheduled for next March in Italy. This feature film will return to the assassination of Maurizio Gucci. The grandson heir of Guccio Gucci, the founder of the famous Italian luxury brand. A murder ordered by his future ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani, played by Lady Gaga. The latter will play opposite Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Adam Driver and Jared Leto. One thing is certain: we are (very) impatient to discover Joaquin Phoenix as the greatest man in history!
