This is a scoop that was revealed by Variety magazine. Actor James Marsden will play one of the lead roles in the film adaptation of the video game Sonic. Not much is known about the future adventures of the blue hedgehog.
Complete universe change for James Marsden. The American actor currently shares the poster of the series Westworld. His role as a robot suits him so well that a season 3 has already been ordered. James Marsden began his acting career as Cyclops/Scott Summers, a mutant from the original X-Men trilogy. His next film will be totally different from those made before. The American actor will face Sonic, emblematic character of the Sega firm. The film will be a mix of animation and live action. It should look like Peter Hewitt's Garfield movies or The Smurfs with Neil Patrick Harris. If the role of James Marsden has not been specified, we do know that he will be one of the main characters.
A secret project
Very little information has been disseminated about this project. We know a few names in charge of the production but nothing about the script or the casting of the film – apart from the presence of James Marsden. Paramount Studios bought the exploitation rights for the famous blue hedgehog from Sega in 2017. The film will be directed by Jeff Fowler, best known for his animated shorts. Neal H. Moritz (Fast and Furious) is the producer of the film.
Faced with Variety's announcement, reactions are mixed. On social networks, Sonic fans fear a failed adaptation that would ruin the image of their hero. Others, on the contrary, are happy to finally see Sonic's adventures on the big screen. The current project therefore makes it possible to mark the 25th anniversary of the hedgehog.
The film about Sonic should be released on November 15, 2019 in the United States.
