Sony continues to structure the Spider-Man universe in cinema. We know that a sequel to Venom is in the works. Morbius, another iconic villain, is on the program for March 2021. And the last "villain" to be talked about is Kraven the hunter. J.C Chandor, director of Triple Frontier on Netflix, is in discussions to direct this spin-off according to Deadline. Richard Wenk is currently writing the screenplay. A choice that seems relevant since we find the screenwriter behind several action-oriented blockbusters like Equalizer, Jack Reacher … Kraven is defined mainly by his immoderate love for hunting. His personality does not follow the usual classical patterns. An excellent comic book writer, DeMatteis, brilliantly exploits the psychology of the character in a must-have comic book related to the weaver, The Last Hunt of Kraven (published in 1987).
Kraven the Hunter: A unique villain.
The real name of this character is Sergei Kravinoff. His ancestry is of high lineage since he descends from a Russian aristocratic family. He has a half-brother, Dimitri Kravinoff, who is also among the weaver's gallery of enemies. His stage name is the chameleon, a name evocative enough that his skills are not explained to you. For those who do not know this secondary villain he made his return in the monthly magazine Spider-Man published by Panini Comics in France. Going back to Kraven, we can safely say that his particular psyche makes him one of the most intriguing characters in the Marvel Universe. The idea of digging into what made him, the being he is now, is interesting. His obsession with hunting and his determination to hunt down prey worthy of his status are two important points that the creative team will have to develop.
Who to play Kraven the hunter?
Rumours are rife about this. Some want the presence of Jason Momoa, others that the actor physically resembles the hero of Altered Carbon (Joel Kinnaman for the first season of the Netflix show). Kraven could also be Peter Parker's antagonist in Spider-Man 3, the upcoming Sony-Marvel collaboration. Rarely has Peter Parker been so psychologically affected by one of his enemies. While some fans blame the two films with Tom Holland for being far too light, the third installment could be a turning point for one of Marvel Comics' favorite heroes. A heavy task for Chandor who still has some quality films to his credit. These include the critically acclaimed thriller Margin Call (nominated for Best Original Screenplay) and A Most Violent Year.
