The murder of American George Floyd is undoubtedly one of the most publicized cases of the moment. Police violence in the United States is once again demonstrated. The population can no longer bear to stand idly by in the face of these injustices. This is why many celebrities have raised their voices to take action against this violence.
The facts of the George Floyd case
On Monday, May 25, a 46-year-old African-American man died following an altercation with a police officer in the city of Minneapolis. The police officer pins George Floyd to the ground, puts his knee on his neck which prevents him from breathing, he dies. This is not the first illegitimate arrest to go off the rails in the United States. In 2014, Eric Garner suffered the same fate. The mayor of Minneapolis commented on this topic on Twitter:
"Being black in America should not be a death sentence. For five minutes, a white officer was seen pressing his knee on the neck of a black man. For five minutes. When you hear someone screaming for help, you're supposed to help them." […] To our black community, to the family: I'm sorry."
He later confirmed that four police officers were involved in the death of George Floyd and were fired.

The assassination is characterized here as a racist act. Celebrities express themselves on the subject especially through social networks.
Two speeches that will mark the spirits
Omar sy is a committed actor He writes a column in the columns of the Nouvel Obs called "Réveillons-Nous". A strong title just like its text which is hard-hitting. A few lines are particularly striking:
"On the ground, his neck crushed in the asphalt by the knee of a police officer, suffocated, asphyxiated, George Floyd died. No reason. A natural and obvious outpouring of indignation gripped crowds around the world. I walked for George Floyd in the United States. The name of George Floyd echoed many others in my head. That of Adama Traoré, in France. […] George Floyd and Adama Traoré had things in common: they were both black, of great build, their lives turned into horror in a few hours. No reason.
Already, in 2016, he had immediately supported the family of Adama Traoré who died in circumstances still unclear. In 2020, he walks in the United States for George Floyd. Following this text, a petition against police violence was created on Change.org led by Omar Sy.
In London, British actor John Boyega, who plays Finn in Star Wars, spoke at a protest rally after the death of George Floyd.
He grabbed a megaphone and spoke on the subject, delivering an emotional anti-racist speech. He says:
"I speak to you from the bottom of my heart. I don't know if I'd have a career after that, but never mind. It's so essential. I need you to understand how painful it is to be reminded every day that your race has no value. We are the physical representation of George Floyd."

These two men are not the only ones to have externalized their point of view.
Singer or actors: all are committed against police violence
Many artists revolted and raised their voices to defend this deceased. More than defending George Floyd, it is above all a question of expressing oneself on a subject that continues to perpetuate itself in the United States. The singer Adele posted on her Instagram account :
"The murder of George Floyd sent shockwaves around the world. […] It's systemic racism, it's police violence and it's inequality. And it doesn't just happen in America! Racism is alive and well everywhere. "
Miley Cyrus also shared a post on Instagram :
"Like many of you, I am angry, outraged and devastated by the injustice that has prevailed in our country for far too long: centuries and generations."
Actor Hugh Jackman posted :
"In difficult times, when I don't know what to do, or how to guide my family… I rely on the words of my mentors who have guided me through life. One of these mentors is Nelson Mandela. He said: "Racism must be opposed by all means at its disposal. »"
Jay-Z went even further by buying pages of advertisements in the American national press by publishing a black background as well as an excerpt from a speech by Martin Luther King. Among these lines we read:
"A man dies when he refuses to fight for what is right. A man dies when he refuses to fight for what is true."

As for Kanye West, he goes so far as to cover the school fees of George Floyd's 6-year-old daughter. A spokesman for Kanye West said Thursday on CNN. He also reportedly donated $2 million to support the families of George Floyd as well as those of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, who died in similar circumstances last February and March.
The cast of the crime series Brooklyn Nine Nine has also committed to this subject. Co-creator Dan Goor posted on Twitter that "The cast and director of Brooklyn 99 condemn the murder of George Floyd." A donation of $100,000 was made to the National Bail Fund Network. It is an organization that pays bail for protesters arrested in connection with the protests.
Athletes also express themselves
Many athletes have expressed anger at the murder of George Floyd. Among them Lebron James who posts many texts and photos on Instagram every day. Michael Jordan wrote a text that can be read on Twitter. As for the wife of Kobe Bryant, the famous basketball player who died last January, she published a photo of her husband wearing a T-shirt whose inscriptions are "I can't breathe", a reference to the Eric Garner case. A poignant image from 2014 followed by a description: "My husband wore this T-shirt years ago, but here we go again. " https://www.instagram.com/p/CA1xv2Kjknt/ French footballer Kyllian Mbappe also shared his support on Twitter as did judoka Teddy Riner. Meghan Markle, Kendall Jenner, Travis Scott, George Clooney, Harry Styles and thousands of others have expressed their compassion, support and outrage over what happened. For them, keeping quiet is impossible and talking about it is a necessity.
