Denzel Washington is one of the best working American actors. He has also been behind the camera twice with Antwone Fisher (2003) and The Great Debaters (2007).Fences is his third work. It is an adaptation of a play that won two prestigious awards in 1987. The American actor was particularly touched by the play imagined by a former prisoner who became interested in art during his incarceration.
