Blade Runner 2049, the highly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott's work, will be released on our screens on October 4. Directed by the talented Denis Villeneuve (First Contact), one of the most recognized directors of his generation, this film will take up the original plot of Blade Runner, thirty years after the events of the first opus.
It is impossible not to look forward to this sequel to the mythical Blade Runner, as Ridley Scott's film has marked the spirits. Its dark and threatening universe as well as its characters as detestable as endearing have made it a mythical work that has durably impacted the world of cinema. With this sequel, Denis Villeneuve tackles a cult work and fans are waiting for him at the turn. The director of Prisoners, Sicario and the recent First Contact has, however, proven himself with feature films combining suspense and psychology, two values shared by Blade Runner. This new project allows the viewer to find Deckard thirty years after his escape with a replicant, while he is wanted by Officer K, new Blade Runner embodied by Ryan Gosling. This sequel questions Deckard's identity again after the first installment left some clues encouraging us to question his human nature. So, replicating or human our dear Blade Runner ?
On the casting side, Harrison Ford is again in the game, taking up his taciturn and reckless character. At his side, Ryan Gosling, launched on a secret quest to save humanity from extraordinary danger. Blade Runner 2049 also features Jared Leto (Suicide Squad), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Lennie James (The Walking Dead). We are still waiting to know what roles will be assigned to them, even if this casting already promises great performances. All headed by Villeneuve who bases his work on a script by Ridley Scott and Hampton Fancher, at the origin of the writing of the first Blade Runner. Beautiful promises in short, which let us imagine a film full of respect for the original work. On the music side, Denis Villeneuve has once again surrounded himself with Jóhann Jóhannson who we had discovered with Prisoners before finding him on Sicario and Premier Contact. The composer intends to respect the legacy left by Vangeli, in charge of the soundtrack of the first Blade Runner, without restraining his imagination.
Some details of the first scene of Blade Runner 2049 have already been revealed by Ridley Scott at the AFI Festival in Los Angeles. The latter will open onto an abandoned farm, in an atmosphere worthy of the Grapes of Wrath, made of dust and a desert landscape. A flying car lands and a man of unimaginable size and build extricates himself. The latter advances towards the building and finds Deckard, overlooking him with his 150 kilos. This is the information given by the director and screenwriter of Blade Runner, visibly impatient to see his sci-fi epic resume. It's up to us to wait for the release of the sequel to discover more and dive back into the very particular universe of the first opus. Impatience is at its height!
We meet on October 4 in theaters to discover the new work of Denis Vileneuve.
