Disney is far from finished with its "Live-Action" remakes and obviously, making a sequel to Aladdin itched them! However, it seems that the franchise is going in an original direction, since it should not be a remake of Return of Jafar.
Rumors had been circulating for a while about a possible follow-up to Guy Ritchie's success. And despite a rather lukewarm reception from fans of the animated film, there is no denying the phenomenal success of this film from a box office point of view. It is now confirmed by Variety : Aladdin is on its way to a new adventure that will probably not be a remake of the two sequels already released.
The writers (John Gatins and Andrea Berloff) as well as the producers (Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich) should reprise their respective roles for this second opus. However, we do not yet know if Guy Ritchie will be back in the game. We also don't know if the entire cast will return. But there is no doubt that Disney will convince all these beautiful people to resume his role.
Unlike the animated sequels that were released directly on videocassettes (yes yes it existed), this sequel should indeed be released in theaters and not on their Disney+ streaming platform (on which we can already find the Live remake of Beauty and the Tramp).
No date has yet been announced but knowing the company with big ears, things could go very quickly for this next Aladdin. If production is launched quickly, we can hope to discover this sequel around 2022/2023, depending on the firm's schedule. Case to follow!
