There has been a lot of turmoil since the announcement of the release of Death Note, adaptation of the eponymous manga by Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ōba directed by Adam Wingard. The detractors are numerous and the mistrust that hovers around this remake is growing. However, we're going to give you some good reasons to watch Death Note, whether you're a skeptic or curious.

It's a Netflix original program

The works promoted by Netflix are, in the majority of cases, of excellent quality. The platform has distinguished itself by its growing choice of titles but also by the undeniable quality of the films and series for which it has the exclusivity. The Netflix catalog contains countless nuggets such as Stranger Things, Narcos, 13 Reasons Why, To The Bone, iBoy… We can therefore generally relativize and feel confident: it is rare that Netflix rhymes with disappointment.

The authors loved the film

This may surprise some but Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ōba would have appreciated the adaptation of their manga to the cinema. Indeed, Masi Oka, producer of the film, announced at the San Diego Comic-Con that the two authors had benefited from a private screening in Japan… And they would have loved it.

This is obviously information to be taken with tweezers but if the two mangakas agree that the film is good, why not be tempted?

Death Note has already been adapted…

… And little info: the film was catastrophic, although offering an entirely Japanese cast. Indeed, in 2006, Shûsuke Kaneko's Death Note proved incredibly disappointing. The visual effects to bring Ryuk to life were of poor quality, the script tasteless and the acting very sketchy. So we can already admit something: the Ryuk played by Willem Dafaoe already seems to hold up better!

Good surprise or disappointment, it is by looking that we make an opinion

This is perhaps the most simple point, but also the most important. Many pride themselves on not wanting to waste their time watching this film. But concretely, isn't this the worst attitude to have? Don't we say that we should not judge a book by its cover? To get a true opinion of the film, you have to watch it. Seen from the eye of an enthusiast or a neophyte, with preconceptions or simply out of curiosity, each work deserves to be considered and judged. It is through experience that opinion is formed: it is therefore necessary to take a step back and give this feature film a chance.

For all these reasons, we highly recommend watching Death Note when it is released. Let us pray, however, that it will be of good quality. No one wants to relive a new Dragon Ball Evolution, right?
