Ryan Reynolds does not think there will be a Deadpool 3 despite a first installment that broke records and a second that is just as promising.
Last year, Rhett Reese, who co-wrote Deadpool 2, claimed that Deadpool 3 and X-Force would be two different movies, with one serving as an introduction to the other. Rumors of a Deadpool 3 had arisen as early as December 2016.
Ryan Reynolds said during a Q&A with Starnews Korea that he is not sure if a third film will be made. He then explained to Entertainment Weekly:
I don't think there will be a Deadpool 3. […] I have the impression that the character, for him to function in his own universe, he would have to be deprived of everything. I don't think we can keep doing that. But I see it as a member of X-Force, of course. I'd love to see him in a team thing, a mano à mano or with a great female character from the X-Men universe.
So the end of the solo career could mark the beginning of the X-Force team. Very different team from other superhero teams such as the Avengers or the X-Men in the sense that members of the X-Force are morally flexible and can afford a lot of other things. Reynolds also dreams of a Deadpool/Wolverine crossover, which he calls "wolviepool", but Hugh Jackman has apparently retired… Wolverine is part of X-Force in the comics, so such a crossover is totally plausible.
It must be admitted that Deadpool 2 could already be the introduction to X-Force, given the important presence of future members of the team (if we rely on the trailers). As a reminder, X-Force will be directed and written by Drew Goddard and obviously Reynolds is part of the cast. We wonder if Deadpool will continue to say hello to the cinema screen. What is called "merc with a mouth" was the originality and strength of the film.
We are still waiting to have confirmation of this bad news, even if Ryan Reynolds is well placed to hold this kind of information: he is the writer, producer and star of Deadpool. It's hard to believe, especially if you remember that Reynolds fought for a long time for the film to be made, which had its chance only because the test footage leaked on the internet. This decision can of course be changed (and we hope it will) if Deadpool 2 makes more money at the box office than the previous installment (it is speculated that it will reach, during the opening weekend, a record sum of $ 150 million in North America).
In the meantime, go see Deadpool 2 at the cinema. In the cast: Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić who will do the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable and Julian Dennison as Russell. May 16 in theaters.
