While the trailer of Justice League was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con, Geoff Johns, head of DC Entertainment said that future DC Comics films will abandon the dark tone of the previous ones to turn to a brighter style.

Indeed this first trailer of Justice League suggests a humor quite present in the manner of Marvel movies. This is a first for DC Comics which decides to continue its momentum of Suicide Squad already less serious than previous DC productions. A desire that is explained by the bad reviews received on Batman V Superman, which claimed that the feature film was taken too seriously.

Geoff Johns , recently appointed head of DC Entertainment, stated in the colones of the Wall Street Journal the turn that the DC expanded universe wanted to take:

"In the past, the studio made a mistake: thinking that DC movies were dark and realistic and that's what made them different. But this is not true, it is actually an optimistic and hopeful vision of life. Even Batman has that little spark. If he didn't think he could give us a happier tomorrow he'd stop right away. We're currently looking closely at all of this in order to stay true to the characters."

Time will tell whether this change in tone will be a good decision or not; but DC had nevertheless managed to give itself its own identity of dark and realistic blockbusters with the Batman trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan and the excellent Watchmen of Zack Snyder. This desire to move towards a brighter tone is entirely commercial and proves that DC is behind in the race against Marvel. Ready to take over their recipe, DC Entertainment may leave behind a vein to exploit. Changing tone is not necessarily the solution, Suicide Squad is the proof, since the feature film, despite its light tone, did not have the expected success.
