The infamous Charles Manson will soon be entitled to two new works on his life. And as surprising as it may seem, the American guru will be embodied in both cases by the same actor.
There are countless films and series about this murderer of the 70s. Charles Manson, charismatic leader of a hippie community turned serial killer we know, will be played by Damon Herriman as much in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the next Tarantino, as in season 2 of Mindhunter, a Netflix series.
However, the two productions will trace different phases of Manson's life. Quentin Tarantino should focus on the events of the summer of 1969, when the murderer and his "family" murdered several people in Los Angeles, including Sharon Tate, the wife of the famous author Roman Polansky, then 8 months pregnant. David Fincher, the director of Mindhunter, has apparently decided to return to the period when Charles Manson is already behind bars. In this series, two FBI agents seek to change criminology by focusing on the psychology of the murderers themselves.
If we had the information of the presence of Damon Herriman in the ninth film of Tarantino first, the site Collider ensures that David Fincher would have had the idea first. Moreover, his scenes in Mindhunter would have already been shot in July.
This is far from the first time this kind of coincidence has happened. This was the case, for example, for Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal, who played Che Guevarra in the 2002 miniseries ¡Fidel!then in 2004 in Carnets de voyage by Walter Salles. Ditto for Judi Dench, who put herself in the shoes of Queen Victoria in 1997 in The Lady of Windsor, then again 20 years later, in 2017, for Stephen Fears in Royal Confidant.
Damon Herriman will not be confused, since he has already played a criminal in J. Edgard under the direction of Clint Eastwood. We do not know if he can congratulate himself for having the head of the job, in any case he will be well impregnated with the character.
