Directed by Ben Falcone, Thunder Force is a parody of a superheroic movie. Starring Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer, the film tells the story of how two childhood friends who had lost sight of each other acquire powers to become the Thunder Force. Unfortunately, despite an interesting starting premise, the film does not fly very high.

Thunder Force: an interesting potential

At the moment, where the superheroic genre abounds on the screen, and this, in all its forms, it is always quite interesting to see offbeat proposals. Thunder Force had the bias to offer a superhero movie like no other, oriented towards comedy and offbeat. And then, the presence of Melissa McCarty is still a guarantee of quality. "Thunder Force" review: a totally failed superheroic parody Thunder Force tries to play with the clichés of the genre, to divert them, to parody them. So, certainly, Ben Falcone offers some pretty funny sequences. But against all odds, it is on the side of the bad guys that the best floodgates hatch. Jason Bateman and Bobby Cannavale reserve the best humorous sequences, especially when they talk to their henchmen. But apart from a few rare smiles, Thunder Force has difficulty extracting laughter from its viewer. And even if the feature film plays with the clichés of the genre, it does not seem to fully master its subject. The lag is years behind its time, and itself becomes obsolete. A low-end parody, which has no inventiveness or originality to divert the superheroic universe…

A total failure

Thus, Thunder Force is placed in the underbelly of the genre. Ben Falcone has no inventiveness to give rhythm and intensity to his work. Thunder Force fulfills its specifications with laziness, and is ultimately extremely classic. A height for a superhero movie that seeks to be different. Finally, Ben Falcone is mistaken in his approach. While he tries to propose a production out of step with the genre, he is finally terribly inked in style. He signs a formatted film, tasteless, which applies the clichés of the genre without asking questions (the discovery of powers, nemesis, groceries, etc …). "Thunder Force" review: a totally failed superheroic parody Overall, Thunder Force is a complete failure. The valves are low-end, the action sequences are bland, and the rhythm is a real torture. Ben Falcone can't inject rhythm and atmosphere into his film, which is usually totally boring. He spends too much time on his totally uninteresting first part, in which he offers an uninteresting workout. The two heroines take far too long to get to the field. Finally, Thunder Force never develops its universe, simply presenting two heroes, and three villains, without devoting itself to the potential other supervillains.

Pushy superheroic comedy, extremely poorly paced, and quite boring. Poorly written, badly edited, the film accumulates hollows, despite a laudable intention to parody the genre. But overall, it's a total failure.
