The toy – "The worst thing that can happen to him is to look like you" The toy is an amazing first film and one of the most successful. The film has thematic depth by addressing the excesses of a child-king and by having Michel Bouquet ask who is guilty between the one who lets himself be dictated his conduct and the one who professes the order. The kid is in fact excessively neglected by his father and becomes attached to Pierre Richard who is really touching in this role. The ending is amazing and unexpected. Nevertheless, I think the director could have gone further in the abuse inflicted by the kid.
"I don't think men are meant to be fathers" – The New Toy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoxcBeqXYs4 This new version of The New Toy holds the road by its renewed thematic acuity: it addresses subjects absent from the original such as the ephemerality of wealth, the class struggle or the inevitability of the disease with the mother of the child, great unexplained absent from his elder; while maintaining a strong message about filiation and happiness due to money. Jamel Debbouze overplays a little but he is the worthy heir of Pierre Richard. Nevertheless, a shadow obscures the picture, it is that the end is less bittersweet, we have a complete happy ending.
