Black Panther Wakanda Forever is one of the most anticipated films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the death of the original Black Panther Chadwick Boseman in 2020, the franchise was given a great challenge: to create a correct handover while respecting the memory of the actor. The expectation was great on the part of the public, and the result was necessarily left or double. How did the Marvel studio cope?

Strong themes for Black Panther Wakanda Forever

The two main themes of the first Black Panther are mourning and legacy. It is in this momentum that the second part continues, while carrying the true mourning of its interpreter in the greatest respect. On that side, the challenge is largely successful. Everything is in sobriety, we pay tribute to him and throughout the film we feel the emptiness he has left. Just the famous introduction of the logo is a sequence of images of T'Challah in total silence. The color is announced, and it is Shuri who takes over. We are close to her grief and we make the transition with her. Its development is one of the greatest qualities of the film. Through it one feels denial, anger, and finally acceptance and a kind of inner peace that begins to be found. She takes up the torch of the main character without great difficulty and does not erase her big brother who leaves his mark without making it evolve in his shadow. These themes also help the social discourse of the franchise, since grief and legacy are the very center of the remnants of colonization, which is again expressed vehemently and sensitively in this sequel.

The introduction of a new universe

The post-Avengers MCU has had its share of ups and downs, and lately, it keeps introducing us to new worlds and new characters. If Shuri already takes the central place while we had seen it little enough, it is also an opportunity to present new faces. The main antagonist first, Namor, a man of the sea who comes from a fantastic city and who has a moral of his own and quite complex. It acts as a nemesis for Shuri and the two characters evolve in mirror, which allows a development of characters all the more interesting and rather interesting images. The aquatic world of Namor is very well worked, brings its own aesthetic and it is refreshing to see, we clearly dive into a fantasy universe more dreamlike than before. The introduction of the young prodigy of technology Riri Williams is a little more clumsy, it serves as a comic spring and can give an impression of character function at times, despite an undeniable endearing side. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlGIWM_e9vg

The question of action

Black Panther Wakanda Forever is more posed than most other Marvel Studios movies. This is both its strength and weakness, although the scale weighs more on the side of strength. The film can feel like it takes a little time to start. It's a content-rich story and exposing new plots is sometimes awkward. But once he is launched he takes us with him to the end and he manages to find his happy medium between action and emotion. The great strength of this sequel, and the one that manages to punctuate it all the more, is a masterful orchestral soundtrack, which perfectly suits the rhythmic editing specific to director Ryan Coogler. We sometimes have the impression, in the best moments, of an action very inspired by a James Cameron and brilliantly realized. This new Black Panther is a successful tribute to Chadwick Boseman and T'Challah. The handover is successful and although the start may seem a little long, the film is and between the jumble of emotions (characters as spectator) and the action of the blockbuster he manages to create his own identity. A special film, significant of an advancement of the Marvel Cinematic Universee, while saluting the past with respect. Currently in theaters.
