Champs-Elysées film festival: Ari Aster guest of honor of the 2022 edition

The great mass of French and American independent cinema has unveiled the jury and part of the programming of its11th edition. Filmmaker Ari Aster, author of the chilling Heredity and Midsommar, will be the guest of honor at the Champs-Élysées film festival, alongside composer Dan Deacon. Emmanuelle Bercot (La tête haute, De son vivant) will preside over the feature film jury. It is a cinephilic event that has become unavoidable. The Champs-Élysées film festival returns for an11th edition to showcase the best of French and American independent cinema. While waiting to know the selection of feature films in competition, the jury and guests of honor have been unveiled, as well as the short film program. The opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday, June 21, at 7 p.m., at Publicis Cinémas, with a performance by artist Maud Lubëck, accompanied by actress Irène Jacob (Three Colors: Red). This will be followed by the premiere of Kogonada's After Yang , a science fiction film starring Colin Farrell and Jodie Turner-Smith in the cast.

Chills on the Fields: Ari Aster arrives in Paris

It is a well-known name among fans of genre cinema. The American director Ari Aster will be the guest of honor on the7th art side this year. With Heredity and Midsommar, he has imposed his singular author's paw, with works as disturbing as sublime, as attractive as they are frightening. His next feature, Disappointment Blvd., described as "an intimate, decades-long portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time," is expected later this year, starring Joaquin Phoenix. Dan Deacon will be the guest of honor on this side of the festival. Other big names join the guest list of the11th Champs-Élysées film festival. This is the case of Emmanuelle Bercot who will preside over the competition on the feature film side. Recently, the director and actress signed De son vivant, awarded the César for best actor for Benoît Magimel. She will be accompanied by singer Albin de la Simone, filmmaker Maïmouna Doucouré (Mignonnes), actress Rebecca Marder (Une jeune fille qui va bien) and director Diego Ongaro (Down with the King). The selection will be announced in June. Its jury is composed of comic book author Nine Antico, director Élie Girard (Les mauvais garçons, awarded at the Césars for best short fiction film), actress Pauline Lorillard (Sainte-Baume) and singer and novelist Clara Ysé (the book Mise à feu).

Some appointments not to be missed

In addition to the competition, the official selection comes with special sessions to watch. Yann Gonzalez from Nice (A knife in the heart) will unveil his latest short film, Hideous, also presented in a special screening at the next Cannes Film Festival. Note also Lucienne in a world without solitude, new adventure of the character played by Stéphane Caillard, after Lucienne eats a car, in 2018.
