As expected, the president of the Un Certain Regard Jury has just been unveiled! And it is the actor Benicio del Toro who will have the honor of presiding over the antechamber of the Competition at the next Cannes Film Festival. Focus!

The Puerto Rican actor returns once again to Cannes, this time in the Jury of Un Certain Regard. He won the Best Actor Award in 2008 for Che (Steven Soderbergh). He left empty-handed in 2011 with 7 Days In Habana, a collective film. Succeeding Uma Thurman, Benicio del Toro will have to deal with the other four members, who will be announced later this month. This parallel category is often the preliminary stage to any film (in this case to the director) before joining the prestigious selection of the Competition. Works from all over the world, which are distinguished by an aesthetic treatment or an original subject, are presented every year. Of the twenty works present on average, the Jury will reward only one by awarding it the Un Certain Regard prize. However it is not uncommon to see two films from this selection cited during the awards, a special mention may be granted exceptionally.

A category to watch closely since it can see the future winner of the Caméra d'Or compete. It is also a first-minute springboard because you can see films in this category opening the Cannes Film Festival.

Only a few days left before discovering the other voters of this 71st Cannes Film Festival. A list of film professionals who can also be critics or journalists, as is the case in parallel selections. We expect new names to be added to those of Cate Blanchett (President of the Competition Jury), Bertrand Bonello (President of the Short Film Jury and the Cinéfondation) and Ursula Meier (President of the Caméra d'Or Jury).

While patiently waiting for the continuation of the various juries we remind that the next Cannes Film Festival will take place from 8 to 19 May, on the sunny and glittery Croisette.
