After years of silence, James Cameron returns to his latest project: Avatar. He recently announced that the first crank strokes for Avatar 2 would be coming soon.
The news was announced by American actor Stephen Lang (Colonel Quatrich in the first part) during a panel hosted by Bruce Campbell at Wizard World Comic Con in Chicago:
"At the beginning of the new year, we will start shooting the Avatar sequels. I think the whole process of making films and releasing them will take us to 2023."
Indeed, James Cameron was already planning to make three or even four parts to his film, which had wreaked havoc in 2009 ($ 2.7 billion at the box office). After the news about these multiple suites, the web had not necessarily reacted positively to this project. Indeed, the first opinions denounced the marketing desire of these suites. Fortunately, Cameron tried to break the ice and told us more about his sequels:
"We won't shoot them back-to-back, but at the same time. It will be a huge production, staged as a mini series. […]In all, we will have to tell eight hours of story, it will be a gigantic challenge, we must not get lost along the way. It will be the biggest challenge of my career and I'm sure for the actors too. […]
Avatar 2 should be in theaters at the end of 2018 if everything goes well.
