A full member of the Justice League, Aquaman is a superhero belonging to the DC Comics universe (Arrow, Batman, Superman etc.). He is also the king of the Atlanteans, the inhabitants of the legendary Atlantis.
Origins of Aquaman
He is the son of Atlan, a powerful magician who charmed the queen of the Atlanteans (played by Nicole Kidman). He was baptized Orin at birth. Lest he become evil, he was abandoned to his fate when he was a baby because his blond hair was a sign of ill omen according to the Atlanteans, on a reef. Against all odds, when the water moves away from the reef, it survives. It will grow among dolphins. As a teenager, he returned to the shore and was taken in by his later adoptive father, Arthur Curry. In a fight against the Atlanteans, he will die, transmitting his name to the future King of Atlantis. Knowing that beings similar to him exist, he will go in search of them. Finding the underwater city by chance, he learns that his late mother was the queen. Entrusted with the title of King, he accepted it, in order to honor his memory.
The King of the Oceans
Aquaman has the ability to breathe both on land and underwater. It is able to swim with breathtaking speed, as well as communicate telepathically with all forms of underwater life. So to speak, he is the master of the Oceans. It is also endowed with superhuman strength as well as a very strong resistance to water pressure.
Member of the League
The character of Arthur Curry (aka Aquaman) first appeared in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017), produced by Zack Snyder (300, Man of Steel, Watchmen). He is now a full member of the Justice League with whom he saved the world. It is also composed of Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Flash and Cyborg, among others.
The protector of Atlantis
The story of the movie Aquaman, King of Atlantis takes place after the events of Justice League (2017). Arthur Curry/Aquaman then returns to his family in Atlantis. Taking advantage of only a short moment of respite, he will realize that a war is brewing between the Atlanteans living underwater, and the Humans living them, on the surface. Aquaman, as King of Atlantis, will then use his trident and powers to protect his kingdom and his people.Note that the film adaptation gives a much more badass look to the character of Aquaman compared to his counterpart from the original comics.
A cast full of celebrities
Indeed, is announced to the cast Willem Dafoe (Platoon, Spider-Man), Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV, Expendables), Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge). Let's not forget Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Stargate Atlantis) in the lead role.
Jason Momoa, back as Aquaman
1m93, long hair, bad boy look, muscular, known for his role as Khal Drogo in the series Game of Thrones, and Conan in the film of the same name, Jason Momoa returns to service again as King of Atlantis, his first appearance in the role being in Justice League. Momoa said she was very satisfied to be the first actor to play Aquaman in the cinema and seems to know his character well as revealed by the widescreen site.
"It's not like there were 4 other incarnations of Aquaman before me. It's up to me to decide the tone of the character."
More lightness and less darkness for DC
Goodbye Zack Snyder. The director of Justice League, Batman vs Superman leaves his place to James Wan, the director among others of Fast and Furious 7 (2015). A little more cool and lightness, that's what DC will adopt in the cinema.
Scheduled for December 19, 2018, this new DC episode dedicated to Aquaman promises to be up to the task. With an exceptional cast and a confirmed director, all means are gathered to satisfy superhero fans. The latter will of course be present at the rendezvous.
