Alien: Covenant, sequel to the (very) controversial Prometheus, has just revealed a glimpse into its dark universe. Empire magazine has just published new photographs of the film which promises to be gory and anxiety-provoking at will. Meet the Neomorph now!
Remember: the end of Prometheus allowed us to dive into the past of one of the most mythical monsters in cinema: the Xenomorph. This iconic creature first appeared in Ridley Scott's Alien – The Eighth Passenger reveals itself in a primitive form: the Neomorph! And this one is none other than the child of … Elizabeth Shaw, researcher engaged on the Prometheus mission to find the Engineers, ancestors of humanity. His scientific exploration had turned into a nightmare and devastated the crew of the ship Prometheus, forcing Elizabeth and David (his robotic "ally") to leave the explored planet to preserve the fate of humans. Already bloodthirsty at the end of the work, the Neomorph has grown somewhat since Prometheus and seems more carnivorous than ever.
This second photograph allows us to dive back into the plot of Prometheus and the strategy of the Engineers. Creators of humanity, they represent superhuman creatures difficult to pin down, who will not hesitate to destroy humanity if they decide. Here, we can guess the presence of an Engineer, standing in front of a chasm on which hover and fall missiles already seen in the previous film. The latter contain murderous creatures exterminating everything that stands in their way. The passengers of the Prometheus had paid the price.
Last photo unveiled: a shot reuniting David (played by Michael Fassbender, who reprises his role in Prometheus) and Guy Pearce, also present in the previous opus. David is a humanoid robot created by Peter Weyland, a narcissistic scientist in search of immortality. Given the rejuvenated appearance of the latter, we can assume that Alien Covenant will plunge us into David's past and his complex relationship with his "progenitor", disappeared in Prometheus.
Note that Alien: Covenant succeeds the plot of Prometheus and precedes the Alien saga. The work marks the beginning of a new trilogy for director Ridley Scott, determined to dig deeper into the entire universe of the saga. While waiting for the release, how aboutimmersing yourself in the scary atmosphere of Alien Covenant with this most promising trailer?
