The Sims 4 returns with a new expansion. Already known from old games, Seasons is usually a very nice addition. See the seasons pass by over time, new interactions depending on the weather, new activities… Extension sold at the full price of 39,99€, what is it really worth?
Seasons: a not-so-busy calendar
The Sims 4 Seasons, offers you the scrolling of the seasons (spring, summer, fall, winter) on the range of chosen days, 7 days being the default beach for each season. But this can be increased to 14 or 28 days.
We are not going to draw you a picture, in spring, the trees are in bloom, it is starting to be sunny, but it is still a little cold. Summer is hot, you will have to set the thermostat at home (new object to buy) to cool off, unless your sims prefers to jump in the pool or if your field is too small, he will not hesitate to throw himself into an inflatable pool for children (new object also). As for autumn, well, it will rain almost all the time, with big thunderstorms…Watch out for lightning, my sims was struck by lightning… He miraculously survived. The trees will see their leaves turn from red to brown before eventually falling completely in winter. The snow will arrive, you will have to cover your sims well at the risk of making them sick, so some clothes can warm your sims. For example, umbrellas are available for rain, but be careful if there is a storm, it will turn around! There will obviously be some interactions depending on the seasons such as making a snowman, drawing an angel in the snow, having a water bomb fight, burning dead leaves…
Regarding the vegetable garden, well, it was already available before, but there some plants will grow properly only with the right season, an automatic sprinkler is also available. A live scarecrow can also watch your plantings, or chat with you if you prefer chatting. You can also play apprentice beekeepers with hives. And if you manage to sympathize with your bees, they could avenge you on an odious neighbor. Two quarries are also available, florists and botanists. You will also be able to make floral arrangements at home thanks to a workshop.
If you have the Dog and Cat extension, your pets will also behave differently depending on the weather. The weather will also be available via a new channel on your television and if you ever wanted to play god, you can buy a machine that will change the weather according to your desire.
Each season will bring its share of activities but also holidays and holidays of all kinds. In summer you can have barbecues, in winter why not ice rink (that said, once you have an ice rink, you can also do it in the summer…), your children can be sent to a scout camp… A calendar will remind you of the remaining duration of the current season but also the next events, it can be the day of love, or a holiday assimilated to Christmas. Your Sims will be able to decorate the house or tree accordingly, invite friends, and have specific interactions depending on the event. Namely that you can also add specific days as you wish.
And that's pretty much all this expansion pack offers. It is quite light, and the magic no longer takes when you have already had the pack in The Sims 2 and 3 and it is displayed at such a high price. The season pack deserves in my opinion to be part of the base game. There are too few innovations to consider it as an expansion pack as such, even the Restaurant pack remains for me much more consistent in terms of content and especially fun for half price. Yes here, the seasons will change, and it will change the daily lives of your sims but do not expect big changes. We would have liked a new job where we could follow our sims as with the veterinary profession of Dog and Cat. The only real innovation apart from the many decorative and furnishing objects related to the pack is the calendar with events and parties…Even if we can say that the movement had already been instigated by the City Life pack.
Not convincing at such a price, Seasons will clearly not be the extension of the century especially in the face of At work! By dint of wanting to give in to the split of his ideas, Maxis will end up losing his fans when we see a game pack such as "being parents" that should be totally part of the base game… While The Sims 3 had 20 expansions and game packs included, The Sims 4 already has 25 expansions, game packs, and stuff packs. So is the trend more towards quantity than quality? Seasons is therefore not a must, prefer the extension At work, or Dog and Cat if you hesitate.
