With the success of the Switch, many indie developers are taking advantage of this momentum to port their favorite games to Nintendo's console. The Game Bakers offers, from July 5, a reissue of its flagship game Squids Odyssey released on 3DS and Wii U in 2014.

Squids Odyssey is a compilation of two video game gems originally released on ios and android. Indeed, the Odyssey version of the game compiles the levels of the first Squids game as well as those of its sequel Squids Wild West.

Synopsis: The kingdom of the squids is in danger, a tide of hydrocarbon threatens the balance of these paradisiacal depths. A group of cephalopods decides to take matters into their own hands in order to thwart this invasion which takes the form of shrimp and crabs polluted by the "Black Torrent".

Gameplay

It is with this rather simplistic scenario, but rudely led by very referenced dialogues, that Squids Odyssey offers a semblance of Tactical RPG with a very enticing gameplay. Indeed, the strength of Squids Odyssey lies in this gameplay that takes its full measure on the Switch. Unlike classic Tactical RPGs where you have to move on squares and then choose an action, Squids Odyssey offers to move and attack at the same time.

To do this, you have to pull back the tentacles of the octopuses, aim and release to propel the character towards his target. On each turn, characters have a limited number of action points that affect how far the character can travel. In addition, we must take into account the physics of projectiles that tend to bounce very easily on the elements of a very well thought out level design. A simple but rudely effective gameplay that has made the reputation of mobile gaming!

Graphics

The other positive point of the game is its very neat dressing. The design of the cephalopods is really successful, with a universal cute side. Each class is perfectly transcribed in the features of the characters. The decorations, for their part, are enchanting, with shimmering colors. In short, even if it dates a little now, the work done on the aesthetic part of the game still pays tribute to it on switch.

Regarding the lifespan, there are no less than 90 levels waiting for you with a lifespan of about 15 hours of games. In addition, the replayability is excellent if you want to succeed in all levels 100% in a given number of reference rounds.

On the sound side, the music and sound effects of the two episodes fit perfectly with the atmosphere released by the two games. One is very captivating with some very childish notes, the other is typical Far West to the delight of aficionados.

This Switch reissue does not bring much to the different versions already released. But for those who have not yet been enchanted by this band of joking octopods, the experience is recommended on Switch because the game lends itself perfectly to what the console offers portability. It's really nice to play one or two levels here and there on the go, without realizing that you become addicted! The 2 million copies of the game are there to remind that this title is worth seeing.
