Velvet, 16, lives in a small village with his younger brother Laphicet and brother-in-law Arthorius. Everything goes well, but a strange evil spreads in the world, gradually turning humans into monsters. On the night of the red moon, everything changes, the village is attacked and Velvet loses everything it has. Contaminated, she ruminates on her revenge, but it is still necessary to get out of the prison of exorcists. But that's not going to stop our fiery-eyed demoness.

A faithful adaptation

This first volume takes up the introduction and the first hours of the game which correspond more or less to the tutorial. The tragic past of Velvet, a cheerful young girl and caring older sister, is explained before following her incredible escape from prison and the meeting with her first companions. Scenario and dialogues are a little shortened making Magilou less unbearable and the whole thing holds perfectly.

A heroine who thinks outside the box

Velvet is the first heroine to occupy the center of the stage alone, and the least we can say is that for the moment she contrasts with the usual heroines. Frankly badass, she assumes her demon side, her bad temper and her thirst for revenge. Although sexy, she does not seek to be glamorous. She has a goal and she is willing to do anything, she says, to achieve it. Yet its true nature shines through from time to time.

The comrades are no better off and present, for the moment, all the characteristics of the gang of villains with a manipulative magician, a demonic ronin thirsty for combat, a pirate, etc.

Thus, this first volume of Tales of Berseria is aimed either at the super fans of Velvet, wishing to find it in paper format, or at people who have not tested the video game, yet not bad at all.
