69 Shades of Grey by Destination Danger: a disappointing daring room

Destination Danger is a Parisian escape game brand that offers no less than six different rooms, including 69 Shades of Grey, freely inspired by the famous book 50 Shades of Grey.

A commercial pretext

69 Shades of Grey is presented as an initiation session on sado-masochistic relationships within a BDSM club.Hence the title of the room, which refers to the book 50 Shades of Grey featuring Christian Grey, an amateur claimed by its author of this kind of practice. Contrary to what its name might suggest, there is no reference in this room to the romance of E. L. James. The sole purpose of the title seems to be to warn the audience of the naughty atmosphere of the room by attracting readers of the work or the curious. Once entered the BDSM club, a pseudo-investigation awaits the players. This turns out to be a pretext for the discovery of the place.

A dusty dungeon

The cleanliness of the room clearly leaves something to be desired. Dust accumulates everywhere on the set, so much so that the search becomes unpleasant at times. Some elements of the scenery are broken, even though they must be used for the various puzzles. Apart from these inconveniences, the décor is quite basic but is in the theme, displaying all the BDSM shots mentioned by 50 shades of Grey. The layout of the room is however appreciable and ultimately remains the only positive point of 69 shades of Grey.

Unprofessional gamemastering

The gamemastering that was offered to our team is the worst we have faced. Arriving late, the gamemaster offered no apology. The room was untidy, leaving one of the puzzles already solved. The rare interventions of the gamemaster proved that she absolutely did not follow the progress of our team, yet alone to play at this time, and greatly lacked motivation. The "cool" side that the gamemaster forced herself to display in front of us, obviously reluctantly, was unfortunately not enough to compensate for these breaches of what represents the very basis of the success of an escape room. Between empty scenario and interest, damaged sets, untidy and dusty room and lack of skill of the gamemaster, room 69 shades of Grey considerably curbs the desire to test other rooms of the Destination Danger brand despite their enticing names.
