The social network Instagram is trying to renew itself, even if it means copying features already known on other social networks. After taking the stories from Snapchat, Instagram is attacking TikTok. Discover the reals ! A feature that allows users to create content that is short, viral and visible to millions of people.
How does it work?
The reels, currently being tested in France, Brazil and Germany, allow the user to create short videos of 15 seconds. Simple to use, Instagram's ambitions are clear: to monopolize the fashion of short videos and allow users to go viral on the platform. By adding music and sound effects, the "instragrammers" will be able to create content and make it visible in the Network's Explore space, in order to be seen by the few billion users present on the platform.
A sense of déjà vu
Let's be blunt, Instagram and its reels are inspired by what can be found at TikTok. The interface of the reels borrows that of its Chinese competitor with the videos to scroll from bottom to top. The formula is almost the same. To promote its new feature, Instagram relies on influencers and their huge community. For example, we can mention people like Riadh, Bilal Hassani or the very young Wejdene. The Instagram empire strikes back! Seeing the rise of TikTok and its mass production of viral content (challenges, choreographies, tutorials …), the American platform has not remained idle. But, just like the stories when they arrive, the reels are criticized and compared. Criticized for a time, they will however end up like the Instastory and will impose themselves very quickly in our daily use of the application.
