For a long time, the mobile phone brand was widely considered a negligible competitor. However, Huawei was able to dominate the international smartphone market in the second quarter of 2020.

Huawei: acompany that scares the United States

Huawei, a company founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei, has long struggled to win over its Western competitors. However, it has managed to obtain a quasi-monopoly situation on the African continent. It makes 3/4 of its business thanks to foreign markets. However, in recent years countries such as France, Great Britain or the USA have prevented the installation of its telecom equipment. The reason? Fear that HUAWEI will take control of mobile devices via its 5G facilities and provide information to the Chinese Communist Party.  How Huawai dethroned Samsung

Good numbers

According to Canalys, Huawei has exploded its sales to overtake its main competitor Samsung in the second half of 2020.Indeed, it would be "only" 53.7 million smartphones sold for Samsung against 55.8 million for Huawei.

A favorable context

The factor responsible for this increase in sales is the context of coronavirus. In any case, it is the opinion of Ben Stanton, analyst at Canalys "if COVID-19 had not happened, this remarkable result would never have happened".Indeed, the Huawei group dominating the mobile telephony market in China, would have exploded its sales during the deconfinement in April 2020. While in other countries such as the United States, Brazil or France where Samsung dominates, the lockdown would have started at the same time and would have led to the shutdown of commercial activities.

Huawei: aninnovative brand

Huawei is the leader in terms of innovation.Just for the 5G sector, it has filed nearly 3325 patents. It is also known for its creation of new smartphones that are not only high-end and competitive in terms of its prices. How Huawai dethroned Samsung

A better number of sales does not necessarily mean that Huawei will dominate the smartphone market in the coming years. Indeed, the number of sales decreased by only 5% for the Chinese company. On the other hand, they of the Korean company fell by nearly 30%. We understand then that without this health context Huawei would have kept its place of second.
