In March 2022 came out a highly anticipated Chinese drama for several reasons. Already because was announced as male lead, Xiao Zhan, actor and versatile singer, well known in China. And also because this drama, adapted from a novel entitled " Entrust the Rest of My Life to You" by Bo Lin Shi Jiang, was announced in 2018. In early 2021, the film version of this novel, "Please Enlighten Me", was released, making the wait even longer for this adaptation in the form of a drama. Then more than a year later, it finally arrived. So we are going to tell you about this little Chinese romantic parenthesis "The Oath of Love" available on the Rakuten Viki website.

CHARACTERS
We find in main couple Chinese stars well known of small screens or music. In the role of Lin Zhi Xiao, we find Yang Zi, who plays here the same kind of role in which she is often found. The young student, pretty but also very immature. His sulky air and impulsive reactions are character traits often found in Chinese dramas. But she knows how to carry this kind of character and again, she does it very well as usual. In the male role of Gu Wei, we find the singer and actor Xiao Zhan (Sean Xiao), known and recognized, man of many facets and many times rewarded. And it must be said, here his role suits him perfectly. He is always just in the rather difficult role of the doctor who despite his talent questions himself. Her calm and serious role totally counterbalances that of Lin Zhi Xiao and brings a balance full of sweetness. The other main roles to remember are Lin Zhi Xiao's parents. It feels good to see a romantic drama also about a couple married for several years, facing illness. Both actors play the role of parents wonderfully and touch us emotionally.
IMPRESSIONS
So yes, we find all the tricks and clichés of Chinese romantic dramas. But we must recognize one thing, a little more that we do not always find. Apart from romance, this drama focuses on the love of a couple married for a long time in the face of illness but also and above all on filial love and the relationship of a father and his daughter. This relationship is highlighted throughout the drama and this is a real plus. It's really healthy and beautiful to be able to see them (re)discover themselves in the face of the disease. Even if this relationship is also the dramatic framework of this drama, it remains an undeniable strong point. Regarding romance, as in some dramas, the Chinese insist on the age difference of the main couple from the beginning of the drama. This is a subject that is close to their hearts culturally and it is not the first drama in which this is highlighted. It is true that sometimes it becomes very insistent and that is a pity. Indeed the romance is very smooth and is set up in a fluid way and blossoms in a fair way. So why insist all along on this difference in the couple? One can ask oneself the question. However, everything else is realistic and we get easily carried away. The world of classical music and the life of an orchestra undeniably brings a little side that we are not necessarily used to seeing. And that's a nice little bonus.
Secondary characters
Too bad, they are not as striking in this drama. The story really revolves around the main couple and that of parents. It changes, it's a plus, and we adhere. But it also puts in the background all the secondary roles that could have had more weight. In any case, this romantic comedy with its little touch in addition to filial and dramatic love, will conquer you. Despite some flaws, it is still well done and clearly brings something that other dramas do not have. We remain touched by this father-daughter relationship that evolves in the face of illness, in addition to letting ourselves be carried away by this beautiful romance so natural despite their differences. It is also, in fact, a nice life lesson. Want to discover another Chinese romantic drama? We recommend My Little Happiness.
