Synopsis
Cha Cha Woong is a popular magician, rather imbued with his person, and who has a taste for showmanship. But above all, he has a secret: what allows him to be such a great magician is that he has the ability to see ghosts and he has hired three of them in his service who help him in his tricks. One day, her path crosses that of a passionate young policewoman, Go Seul Hae, who will quickly know her secret. She then sees the potential that this gift can have to solve investigations. They become, somewhat by necessity, partners. But this drama goes further, with in the background, a central investigation into the full moon killer and as in many Korean dramas, stories related to beliefs, ghosts and past lives. We do not tell you more and we let you discover the rest.
CHARACTERS
Park Hae Jin is a well-known Korean small screen actor. His first real success is the drama "My love from the star" released in 2013 but he also made a lot of talk about him in 2016 in the drama "Cheese in the trap". Since then, he has made a few films and series. So he returns here with his new drama, in which he plays this magician. And as usual, he knows how to appropriate this kind of role. This drama is a comedy but also at times, a real crime thriller, and it manages to navigate perfectly between the two. He makes us laugh as much as he moves us and he perfectly masters the evolution of his character. His partner, Jin Ki Joo, is more novice in the world of dramas but has already played roles that have marked, such as the one in " Come and Hug me " of 2018 or the secondary one very well embodied in the magnificent drama of 2016 "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo". Here, she is perfect: a strong woman, with character, hardly feminine, certainly, but with her heart on her hand. And she believes deeply in what she does. It perfectly accompanies Park Hae Jin. SECONDARY CHARACTERS: The role of Choi Gum, closely involved in their stories, is played by Jung Joon Ho, accustomed to small screens. He was seen among others in the drama " The Tale of Nokdu" in 2019. His role is just what we needed to bring to this drama and he too manages to make us alternately laugh and move us. The secondary couple is not very sought after but remains "cute". It's a small bonus that remains welcome.
IMPRESSIONS
You have to love this kind of drama that combines a little bit of everything: mystery, fantasy, beliefs related to death, past lives but also the police side and corruption present all along. As usual of the Koreans, all this is mixed with the shaker and gives us a clever mix that leaves no downtime during the 16 episodes. We spend our time oscillating between comedy with its really funny moments, to those really more touching, unfair or even dark with the killer of the full moon. All periods and stories are intertwined, logically, and in a well-crafted way. Romance is the common thread of the series, present but not very marked. It won't be the drama of the year for gestures of affection. But at the same time, it is also its strong point because it counterbalances the rest, finally highlighting it, without necessarily displaying it physically. The special effects are simple but very well done and the world of magic, even if it fades a little for a while, remains present and amazes us. We can also note the presence in this drama of Lee Eun Gyeol, who is a real South Korean magician, illusionist and stage artist. The wink is really nice. In short, it's fresh, funny, entertaining and full of magic. Humor is present, and manages to soften all the dark side earthly (with corruption) and not earthly (with the evil soul). We go through real emotions, throughout the little stories and we even make a passage during an episode, in the historical genre. This cocktail is definitely worth savoring. Sowhat are you waiting for to discover this new drama by Park Hae Jin? And now, Showtime! In other news, we also advise you to discover the Kdrama "Shooting Stars".
