As the title suggests, this one-shot is aimed at an audience that loves animals and especially cats. Mangaka Kimura Akihiro has devoted more than eighteen years of his life to taking care of his hairballs that make him feel good. Well, not always! Indeed, through this autobiographical book, we follow his daily life with its ups and downs but, always with a lot of humor. There is, however, nothing revolutionary since for several years now this manga genre is very appreciated, especially among women. Which can be explained by the cute side (kawaii) of cats, rounded drawings, nonsense caused by animals or their adorable little balls.

The manga knows how to make us go through strong moments through, in particular, the arrival of each cat for example. And in this feline adventure, the masters are five in number: Sasuke the eldest of the males, Arashi his youngest or Arashi's sister, Koharu the first female, or Sango the second female and finally Kurumi the youngest. All this huge family then finds itself, living together under the same roof. Between visits to the vet, fun and hassle, cat owners will easily recognize each other and can't help but remember their own experience. The humor, evoked by Kimura Akihiro translates into the fact that a cat tends to govern the daily life of its masters who then find themselves in reversed roles (the cat becomes the master and the master, a servant of the latter). We can also count on a fluid design, sometimes childish, but also cult passages such as those of the construction of the cat tree or that of the expulsion of hairballs!

His Majesty the Cat

But there is also a lot of seriousness in His Majesty the Cat, including detailed explanations following the prolonged observation of his little protégés. The loss of whiskers, the color of the gums, knowing how to decipher when a master is not well… All these little things that make everyday life joyful and alive. This is especially true when you own an animal and which necessarily causes empathy for its servants. Of course, those who do not have a cat will also appreciate this manga which, without being a documentary or a guide, remains above all a pleasant story.

A manga that, with its humor, the experience of the author and its color format will delight fans of cats, animals or future owners of cats! A smooth and purring one-shot available at Doki-Doki!
