A murderer in a tunnel

The plot of this drama revolves around a man Park Gwang-Ho, a police inspector working in crime. The year was 1986. A series of murders greatly disrupts the inspector's area. The bodies of young women wearing skirts are found strangled with their own stockings. Park Gwang-Ho and his team are doing everything they can to find the culprit with limited means. While he could have caught the perpetrator in a tunnel, here he is projected thirty years into the future in 2017

Tunnel

At first confused by this unusual or brutal change, Park Gwang-Ho does not understand what is happening to him and turns against Kim Sun-Jae. The path promises to be difficult for this improvised duo of inspectors, since both get along like dog and cat. However, as you can imagine, this relationship will evolve at the same time as the main plot, the culprit is always looking for new victims. As a result, Park Gwang-Ho, Kim Sun-Jae and Jeon Sung-Sik, the chief policeman, will have to join forces. Not to mention the precious help of Song Min-Ha, a young woman interested in the psychology of criminals. Is the arrival of our inspector in the future linked to the chance of fate? Obviously not, since the vice is tightening little by little…

A timeless trio

At first glance, it seems obvious that the series is centered on Park Gwang-Ho, played by CHOI Jin-Hyuk who has perfectly integrated his character. A bruised and lost character who manages to touch us with the moving story of a man trapped in another world losing his wife and baby. Through his suffering and doubts, we can only want to see him go home after cornering the killer. And yet, it will be impossible for him to carry out his investigation without help.

TunnelHence the usefulness of this improvised trio in the future, which will therefore serve as a solid basis for the drama. Lacking experience and social interaction, the character of YOON Hyun-Min is an inspector well in his time. However, he wants at all costs to arrest the man who deprived him of his mother.

The last link in this trio, KANG Ki-Young plays a young woman broken, like her two male colleagues, by a past she has forgotten, a real burden for her.

These three protagonists who should not have met, offer us a beautiful picture by playing on our nerves, our emotions and much more. Also, the suspense that surrounds all the phenomena around them is really a treat for lovers of action and police intrigues. You will go from surprise to surprise in this maze of tarabiscoté. And if everything seems acquired when you are used to the genre, you will not be immune to reversals of situations, whether on the side of the culprit or revelations about certain characters. Moreover, the mystery surrounding the other Park Gwang-Ho of 2017 may well surprise you as well as the identity of the real serial killer…

An original thriller

Tunnel is not a drama to pass the time. Far from it. The starting plot is, admittedly, quite simple. Yet you will quickly realize that this is not the case. The actors are effective and make us live a plot that remains classic, but always providing its little effect. Moreover, if the OST are not exceptional, they allow to better live the key moments of the series. Sometimes in pressure, sometimes in feelings, but always at the right time. The big strength of this drama lies in this thirty-year gap that separates our trio and it works well.
Tunnel

However, although we really liked the story, there are also some downsides including events that are predictable or inconsistencies about time travel. Unlike other dramas of the genre, there is no notion of alterations of the past or the future. Therefore, when someone discovers the truth about Park Gwang-Ho, everything seems normal, which is both laughable and not very credible… In the end, the series is very interesting in its psychology of the characters, its plot revolving around an old unsolved case and this man isolated from his reality. However, it is a pity that the ending is sloppy, leaving the field open to our imagination.

What if one day, you were transported to the future with no hope of returning because of a murder case? This is what the hero of the K-drama Tunnel will live and it is far from being fun. To find out more, it happens via the Dramapassion platform in its entirety.
