Oneira, a total immersion in the universe of the Crown before reading
As soon as you get started with this new manga, it is easy to notice the heavy work and involvement that Kana, Cab and Federica Di Meo have put at the service of this work. The cover is remarkable and Federica's drawings are of immense quality; A great mastery of the pencil that makes everything beautiful and neat. The artist has the gift of creating drawings in the image of what the story tells… A dynamic layout during the battle scenes, softer at other times, they have no difficulty in immersing us in the atmosphere that reigns over the kingdom. We are undoubtedly dealing with perfectionists, and we are delighted! Another original idea that shows that the authors have thought of everything: the playlist that accompanies the reading. Original songs composed solely for the purpose of immersing the reader in the heart of the story, just scan the QR code to access the playlist on streaming platforms. In fact, the code points to a linktree that supports creators in different ways, it's very clever! And that's not all! To continue the immersion and make this first volume a memorable experience, a series of "scrolls" are delivered at the same time as the book and make you discover an interactive audio series. Never seen before, for the promotion of a manga! (Just Focus conducted the experiment for you in a video that will be available on Tiktok)
An intelligent and dark fantasy where nightmares come to life
What tends to please, with Oneira, is the way to approach this banal element, which everyone goes through in one way or another: the fight against their own nightmares… If the problem of nightmares has already been seen in many episodes of science fiction, dark fantasy and other works, it is rare that the metaphor is pushed to this point. To quickly explain, Oneira tells the story of Arane Heos, a "sword" nightmare hunter, known as the bogeyman. Both ruthless and tender, she faces the growing threat of nightmares while protecting the secrecy surrounding her child. Nightmares have indeed escaped from the depths of our minds and are driven by the desire to eliminate their hosts. A beautiful metaphor to show the hold that our inner demons can have on us, accentuated by the reality of Arane's fight to protect her child.
Arane, Oneira's "badass" protagonist
Yes, the best for last! Now let's talk about the characters and more specifically Arane Heos, the heroine of Oneira. She is a young woman with a will of steel, endowed with a presence of a captivating charisma that the creators illustrate by her strength both physical and mental. Her power and sensual physique make her a heroine who is not only beautiful, but also intelligent and strong and it could not be more pleasant. Her double cause shows the many facets of her personality: ruthless in the face of the enemy, she is still tender and kind to her loved ones. As for the characters that surround Arane, enemies or allies, they are for the most part very well written. If we can not yet totally attach ourselves to it (a volume is much too short …), we still have a strong interest in them. It's hard not to want to know more about what surrounds them and what they will become! In short, Cab and Federica Di Meo exceeded all our expectations with Oneira. It's fresh, new, interesting and well constructed, with innovative designs both in form and substance! It's available at Kana and in bookstores since June 17th!
