It was on July 8th that the new DECA-DENCE made its debut on the Wakanim platform! We watched the first episode for you, and we're going to critique it in order to make you want it for those who haven't started it yet.
A shattering start, for a captivating story
We go straight to the heart of the synopsis, with the Gadolls (monsters that surround the moving fortress), the Gears who fight them, and the Takers who do not fight. Our two heroes stand out quite quickly. Natsume, who we see from the beginning who wants to become a Gears and who has lost his father who was a fighter, and Kaburagi, a Takers. He is a repairer of the wall of the fortress. It will prove mysterious, but from the first episode, we see their relationship evolve. If everything seems to oppose them, it is at the end that we realize, that in reality, he is not the one he claims, and that they have much more in common, hence this affinity.
Similarities with other manga
In DÉCA-DENCE, we noticed similarities with Attack of the Titans , both in terms of the fighters, their way of fighting the Gadolls, and their means of movement. Similarities also with certain character traits such as the tenacity of certain characters. Take for example Kaburagi who may remind us of fighters of the Exploration Battalion. Still in the idea of Attack of the Titans, even if they are not walls, they protect themselves from monsters about which we know nothing, the same for the moving fortress. We also have similarities with Gurren Lagann regarding the fortress. At the end of the episode, she arms herself to defeat the Gratoll, she is inspired by many robots.
DECA-DENCE: the best animated series of the summer
This mix of several animations is a good combo for this colorful first episode. The animation of the Japanese series DECA-DENCE is a mix of several genres between robotization, monsters, fighters… We also have a dreamlike part with the dream… We have a good assembly which should give a nice anime for this summer 2020. Not forgetting of course the scenery, the landscape and the drawing which are splendid. So, join us next week for the review of episode two. In the meantime, you can read our article about the Dragon Ball Z marathon that will be held next week.
