After our opinion on the unconvincing live film Orange , it is the turn of another feature film to enter the arena. This time, it will not be a question of romance, but of a good big thriller quite violent: Museum, adapted from the manga in three volumes of Tomoe RYOSUKE, published by Pika.

As we were very interested in manga , we had high expectations for this live action film. Hoping it will seduce you too…

Attention, sensitive souls abstain. Many scenes of violence dot this live action.

The sentences will fall like rain.
A woman devoured by dogs, a man cut into small pieces… A series of murders shakes Tokyo. At first, the police have only one clue that links the crimes together: a signature at each crime scene in the form of a verdict written on a piece of paper. Lieutenant Sawamura and Sergeant Nishino investigate but are sorely lacking in leads. What is the killer's motivation? Why are crime scenes so different from each other? And what is the meaning of this sentence left with the victims? (Source: Pika)

Museum manga title

A dark and breathless thriller

When you decide to adapt a manga, the bet is always risky and subject to many reflections on the part of those who already know it. So when we heard about the adaptation of Museum, we thought it was worth taking a look at. We already had a good feeling with its director, well known and given the casting of the most promising

museum

It all begins, with the discovery of the first body. A first violent scene called "the sanction of dog food". No need to detail what we discover with such a title… But it is worth noting that we were not disappointed by the staging, at the height of that of the manga. The first appearance of policeman Hisashi Sawamura, aka Shun OGURI, also delighted us because we were looking forward to this actor well known to playwrights. The atmosphere promises us at that moment a dark thriller, breathless and full of suspense. There are also the elements inseparable from the plot. In addition to offering us crime scenes almost identical to the manga, we also find the psychology of our hero and that of the killer. The man in the frog mask made us sweat with fear, as he looks like his paper model.

Fidelity and originality

On the character side, Hisashi is not a really difficult role to interpret for Shun OGURI, since he is used to playing them. We instantly liked the character, who goes through several states throughout the film. Elaborate scenes that help us to feel his discomfort. But also his despair when his family is kidnapped by the killer or the uncertainty that assails him when he doubts to see them alive again.

museumOpposed to Hisashi, a bloodthirsty murderer who thinks he is an artist and who stops at nothing to annoy our cop. The famous man in the frog mask was also well developed, both physically and psychically. Again it is a success for this film that would have lost all its interest if the actor had missed his shot.

To perfect the bonds of this duo, it is impossible not to mention Haruka, the wife of Hisashi and Shota their son. Indeed, it is through this core of characters that the story reaches its climax and finality in a way. Everything that happens to this little family happens to be related to the investigation, but there is also a notion of abandonment of the family home. We liked the actress playing Haruka, much more human than in the paper version where she seemed erased.

Finally, know that there are also other protagonists around those mentioned above, but as their importance is less, we will not talk about them here. It should be noted, however, that the presence of Nishino, Hisashi's partner, has its usefulness and that he perfectly fulfills his role as a decisive pawn for the rest of the events. So hats off to the latter.

Very good quality

museumMuseum turned out to be for me, a very good surprise and I will even rank it in the lot of the most successful live action films. The quality of the film is excellent, the atmosphere is creepy from beginning to end. As for the realization, it is fluid and unadorned, even if almost sometimes in accelerated version vis-à-vis the manga. However, after the first fifteen minutes, the film grabs us and we will not see the two hours and a few of film pass. On the plot side, in addition to sticking to the original, the writer had the audacity to change some details: a male doctor turned woman, unknown family ties with the killer in the manga …

We find really interesting and realistic characters. Not to mention some dialogues that represent the key scenes of the manga to perfection. We were pleasantly surprised by the lair of this serial killer revealing his life, his habits, his inclinations and his past. The adaptation completes the manga in its own way, making us want to read it, if it is not already done, in addition to bringing an original touch. Let's not forget to mention either, the presence in the end credits of the famous J-rock band, ONE OK ROCK and their title Taking Off !

The live film Museum has bewitched and conquered us with its very particular universe. If there is a lot of manga, there is also a very appreciable free interpretation on the part of the producers. A good point for this feature film that is aimed at neophytes and fans alike!
