There's nothing better than a good video game to relax, right? Still, not so sure to relax with a universe as dangerous as Mynoghra's. A Light Novel born from a mix between the Overlord series and the management game Civilization, a king in search of world domination… The work is written by Fehu Kazuno and drawn by NAVIGAVI, (cartoonist of the series Children of Gorre of the same publisher!) published by Mahô Editions on October 15, 2021. The cover shows the protagonist Takuto Ira on his stone throne – what could be more worthy for a king? Even if this throne is in the middle of a cursed forest… The volume will tell a little more in detail his adventures with his three servants. We are once again talking about an Isekai, always with the same concept of the hero who dies and finds himself transported to a new world. Well, this time it doesn't seem to be that simple. At first glance, Takuto seems to land well in a world resembling his favorite video game, "Eternal Nations," after his death. However, through the Light Novel, we understand that everything is not as we might think. A child suffering from a serious illness, abandoned by his parents, he spent his life in a hospital bed. His transportation in this new world allows him to finally live a thrilling life!
Role-playing and war game
Finally in this incredible world and free of his movements, Takuto embarks on his relentless quest to dominate the world, accompanied by his faithful subordinate Atô who is endowed with a very pronounced character! He is, after all, the great king of ruin, the one who will bring about the end of the world. Undisputed leader of the people of Mynoghra present in the cursed territory. The exchanges are captivating, they allow us to learn a little more about the personality of each. Atô is a sweet girl in the presence of the king, but becomes a terrible negotiator in front of other characters. On the other hand, she does not think all the time, her devotion to her king makes her too proud and grandiloquent. Takuto does not hesitate to put it back in place when this happens. A very pleasant king-servant relationship that is more like two lovers during their discussions. The aspects of video games are shown through production principles: to create a combat unit, you need mana. Depending on the type and strength of this unit, it will cost more or less. There is also "emergency consumption", allowing instant production of a unit for a higher mana cost. The way Takuto builds his game strategy, in a world that could be considered "real" makes the story exciting. This light novel offers a mix between classic war strategy and heroic fantasy. To support the video game aspect, some of the pages have what is called an "Eterpedia". Yes, as the name suggests, it is indeed the Eternal Nation Wikipedia. This information is transmitted directly into the head of the main character. We, too, would like to have Wikipedia in our heads for exams… There is also small additional information explaining some of the functioning of the troops or characters. There is even sometimes encrypted information that seems to give clues about the nature of this strange world…
A king… not so evil!
We are told a book with a King of Ruin, evil incarnate. This was without counting the fact that Takuto has no intention of massacre. The work has a very interesting feature since the protagonist keeps his "humanity" despite being transported to a new world. Some works tend to create a character who adapts far too quickly to his new environment. Not this time! Here, he actually has an ease with this world because he was the first player of Eternal Nations but he keeps some of his moral principles. He does not suddenly become the great leader of evil by forgetting all his past, however tragic. "War is barbaric!" An unthinkable phrase for a demonic king. Yet, this is the position Takuto takes. This aspect helps to give depth to the story as well as to the protagonist. The work is not only intended to tell the fantastic, but also the internal conflicts of a human in the face of such a situation. An evil king, wanting a pacifist end. "The king values sustainable development and doesn't want to hurt the environment." Again, it's not every day that we see an incarnation of green evil. But it nevertheless remains strategic in its decisions.
A Light Novel with significant depth
Some scenes in the Light Novel are really poignant. For example, that of Takuto's internal conflict and powerlessness. This new world does not allow him to escape who he really is, he can nevertheless count on the support of Atô, who listens to his sad revelations. We are also shown both sides of history, good versus evil and all its development. Who is really good and who is really bad? Should we kill for what we believe is right? Philosophical and sometimes even existential questions come out of history to make us tremble and even frustrate. The character development is sumptuous. The author turns our heads throughout the work to question the true nature of some of the characters and, more generally, the complexity of the human. It's never black and white. The dress does not make the paladin (you will see for yourself in the book). It is about making us understand the demonic side of certain characters, the nature of a demon being very different from a human. The work is based on this principle during intense scenes. This moral debate continues with Takuto's perception of certain events. After all, "Hell is paved with good intentions"…
A Light Novel that stands out by addressing social and moral aspects in a world of heroic fantasy. The presence of a mysterious and strange protagonist in an equally bizarre world makes this work particularly gripping. We hope to see the world of Light Novel develop in France to enjoy more stories of this kind!
