The year 2021 is not yet over, but a very large number of new features have appeared. It wasn't easy to make a choice, but here are five of Asiaverse's favorite series.
Higher than the sky
Higher than the sky takes you to a post-war Japan, ravaged by flames. This is a quality work that will immerse you in a story mixing action, emotion and historical facts. This first volume has everything you need to please you, a quality scenario, successful graphics and endearing characters. We can not advise you enough to discover this series as soon as possible.
Tezucomi
An anthology in tribute to Ozamu Tezuka published by Delcourt, Tezucomi brings together cartoonists from all over the world. Each one reinterprets with talent, audacity and freedom the known and unknown stories of the father of Japanese manga. The series will have three volumes at the end and the first two have rightly delighted readers.
Asadora!
New series from Naoki Urasawa, Asadora has it all. An endearing heroine, the atmosphere of Japan in the 1960s, the preparations for the J.Tokyo O from 1964 and a mysterious Kaiju that everyone is hunting. An exciting series still being broadcast whose first 4 volumes demonstrate that Urasawa is a master of fiction.
On August 9, you will devour me
On August 9, you will devour me, by Tomomi (Meian editions): like Bakemonogatari (Oh!Great and Nisioisin), here is a title that revisits the fascinating world of Yôkai and other Japanese Yurei. But this time, in a psychological thriller version! Many questions arise in this first volume: why is Ao Sakurai, the hero, pursued by stalkers from another world? Who is Miyako really? How will this story end? Immerse yourself in a horror story with impactful design.
Blue Period
Blue Period, by Tsubasa Yamaguchi: one of the biggest visual slaps of the year. The mangaka makes art accessible and reinvents the shonen style with her hero Yatora. He reconnected with his passion for painting, trying to overcome the monstrous pressure of his entourage on his academic success and popularity. An exciting bittersweet relationship! The dialogues are lively, sometimes spicy but always right. The graphics are absolutely stunning. And if you lack the color, check out the animated adaptation made by the Seven Arcs studio!
