A manga adaptation of the film "Nos mots comme des bulles" is available since September 28, 2022. A little more than one after the official release of the animated film on Netflix. What's the point of adapting an animated film into a manga? Already, you should know that in France, the title is published by Delcourt / Tonkam. A recognized publishing house that knows how to find some quality manga here and there. The first two volumes are available in all bookstores and online. The first volume of the manga covers about 40 minutes of the film which means that the next two share the other half. This is probably because it poses the most important elements of the story such as the presentation of the protagonists, the synopsis and other secondary elements.
Our opinion on the film
On our side, we preferred the animated film to the manga. For what reasons? There are many of them. For example, the film makes us fully live the story thanks to its flashy colors. The first half of the film is light and playful. What a breath of fresh air in these complicated times to dive into a peaceful narrative punctuated by important moments in life. The background music fits perfectly with the atmosphere transcribed in the film which is quite light and fits perfectly with current generations. Hearing the voices of the characters serves the story because we can easily imagine their ways of working. In the chronology of events, we follow a structure that seems more logical in the film. It allows us to better follow history. In the manga, however, we have additional elements that facilitate our understanding of the characters. The authors have more time to introduce our two heroes that are Cherry and Smile. The manga "Our words like bubbles" is my first manga. The simple but captivating scenario and the drawings very close to those made by the animation studio allow an immediate immersion. I strongly advise you to read the manga Nos mots comme des bulles which is a good introduction before seeing the film that will fully immerse you in this adventure of the daily life of two young originals.
