Many novelties are available in this winter period. Several of them caught our attention, including Buddy Daddies !
Buddy Daddies
Buddy Daddies is an anime from the animation studio P.A Works (Another, Charlotte), available since January 06, 2023 on Crunchyroll. It will consist of 13 episodes of 24 minutes.
The story takes you into the daily life of Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa, two assassins living in a shared apartment and working together. We therefore discover them during a contract. However, everything will change when they meet Miri Unasaka, a four-year-old girl looking for her father.
An air of déjà vu?
It is true that the scenario is not the most original. Indeed, two men with no aptitude in fatherhood find themselves "parents" of a 4-year-old child, overnight. So far, nothing sensational. However, the series bets everything on comedy. Indeed, although we have action scenes, nothing ever goes as planned and derision always ends up entering the scene. This is particularly the case from the first mission of our assassins after the "adoption" of Miri. Many see it as a copy/paste of the hit Spy x Family series. Indeed, the latter has a spy dad, and here, we have two murderous dads. However, this is only in appearance. The background of the story is different, we assure you. Indeed, in Buddy Daddies, there is no question of infiltrating a large school by creating an ideal family, our two young assassins have only one objective, to properly take care of this child. However, this will not be an easy task since neither of them seems to have, at first glance, the paternal fiber. But as the episodes progress, we quickly realize that our two criminals take this "mission" very seriously. Both Kazuki, who pretends to be the child's father from the start, and Rei, who ends up getting attached to it as well. We do not yet know in which direction the story will go, since let's not forget, our two dads are at the base, murderers. They will have to take over contracts if they want to continue to receive money. But it is not easy to work while taking care of a little girl, especially when her arrival is not planned.
Endearing characters?
On the side of the characters, the duo Kazuki and Rei is very pleasant to discover. Indeed, although having very different characters, our two friends are very complementary. And it is thanks to this that they can brilliantly accomplish their various missions. This will also be a strong point for Miri's education. Regarding our child, he admits that at first glance, his behavior is infuriating. Like any child of this age, she does not hold in place, does stupid things and does not bear to stay alone. However, who would leave their 4-year-old daughter alone at home? But we quickly understand that Miri had a more than chaotic beginning of life. During one episode, we meet his mother, and some elements make sense. However, this does not forgive everything and our two assassins will have a lot of work to do to make Miri more suitable when they are at home. We follow our three characters in learning about life, parental for our assassins, and daily life for Miri.
A successful animation?
Finally, on the animation side, we have nothing to complain about! Le studio P.A Works once again serves us quality work. The drawings are very well drawn, the animations are fluid, colorful. Whether it's the action scenes or the comic passages, everything is well done! And for music, they are also pleasant to discover. The opening is catchy, colorful, light, and makes you want to discover more about this novelty. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLXi7jCmOEo Buddy Daddies is therefore a very pleasant discovery. Although the anime may seem "silly" at first, it is still pleasant to watch every week.
