KPOP 2022: Who are AKMU?

Akmu who are they? After the discovery of many K-Pop artists, today we return with Akmu, a remarkable brother and sister duo who are known for their original melodies and their strange and melodious voice.

Here is a short presentation of AKMU: Akmu whose real name is AKDONG MUSICIAN (악동뮤지션) is a South Korean duo formed by two members:

• Lee Chan Hyuk is the band's songwriter, rapper and backing vocalist. He was born on September 12, 1996.

• And Lee Su Hyun who is the lead singer. She was born on May 4, 1999.

The two members of the group are brother and sister. The names of their fans are: Aunts for girls fans and Uncles for boys. This choice of name for their fans shows the family bond that unites them with their fans.

What is the musical background of this duo?

Since a very young age, the two brothers love music and then quickly embark on the Korean music industry. In 2012, they both participated in a Korean TV show called K-Pop Star under the name "Akdong Musician", and then they won it. Thanks to this TV hook, the two brothers will catch the eye of many people. So much so that they release a song called " You are attractive " that will seduce a large number of people. This title will allow them to place them directly at the top of the charts. Following this victory, a year later, Lee Chan Hyuk and Lee Su Hyun decided to sign a contract with the famous Korean agency YG Entertainment. We owe him the emergence of well-known bands like Big Bang, Ikon and BlackPink.

What will this contract with YG allow them to do? 

Following this contract, Akmu released their very first album, containing 11 exclusive tracks, composed and produced by Lee Chan Hyuk. This album is a success. It charted at number two on Billboard's U.S. World Albums Chart. The duo toured Seoul from November 21 to 23, 2014. Then they release a brand new single called " Time and Fallen Leaves" which is a very sweet ballad composed once again by Lee Chan Hyuk. In 2016, Akmu returns with their first mini album containing 6 songs like the famous single " RE-BYE". That same year the duo began singing drama OST. For Moon Lovers , they perform " Be With You ". A year later in 2017 the duo will be known by a greater number of people. It is thanks to the title " Dinosaur " which knows a great success but also thanks to the melody and the beautiful voice of Lee Suhyun. They will also release an album called "Winter" containing 8 tracks like " Last Goodbye ". Despite this success and notoriety, Akmu will take a break from music because Lee Chan Hyuk leaves to do his military service. However Lee Su Hyun remains active on the networks, on his YouTube channel but also by continuing to interpret songs for dramas.

What happens in 2019 for Akmu?

In 2019 it is the great musical return of Akmu. He is back in force with the album "Sailing" which contains 10 tracks. The album in my opinion is the most complete because it contains 10 songs very different from each other. For example "How can I love the heartbreak, you're the one I love" is a very sweet ballad. One could even say it's a lullaby while " Fish in the water" is a more country song. There are also pop or rock titles. The album was also a great success. That same year, they toured with the name "Sailing". In 2020, the group released the single "Happening " on November 16. Lee Su hyun also debuted alone with the title "Alien". Then to finish in 2021, Akdong Musician returns with his latest album "Next Episode" and his 7 titles. These are featuring artists like IU, Sam Kim, Crush or Zion.T.
