In May 2022, the Disney+ platform released a new Korean romantic series: "Kiss Sixth Sense". A little overview of this romance that reveals characters a little different from usual: Indeed, each has a characteristic of his own, and this brings a nice romantic comedy with a touch of fantasy rather well conducted. This even makes it a true mature and modern romantic drama, which is not always achieved in other productions. Let's discover this drama from the Web Toon of the same name, written by Gatnyeo (갓녀)
Synopsis
Hong Ye Sul works in advertising, like her father before her. She loves her job but her mentor and leader, Cha Min Hoo, is a cold, if not terribly unpleasant, man. But as she knows it, she deals with it. But Hong Ye Sul has a secret: She shuns contact with people because when her lips touch someone, she sees their future. However, one day, following an unfortunate accident, she kisses Cha Min Hoo, and she discovers with horror that her future is linked to this leader that she hates. What she doesn't know is that Cha Min Hoo also has secrets…
What we liked
Taken from a Web Toon, even if a priori it is not quite faithful to it, the 12 episodes are very well done, and clearly lead us to love this couple that is forming. Despite their bickering, we always want to know more in each episode. The fantastic side is present, but above all very well dosed: We ask ourselves a lot of questions, we want to know if the future seen by Hong Ye Sul will come true or not, we want to learn more about Cha Min Hoo and we want to know the story behind which is emerging as we go. In short, the whole set makes us swallow with pleasure all the episodes.
Another strong point: the actors.
Koon Kye Sang, is a charismatic quality actor, who had already made a strong impression in the drama "Chocolate" of 2019 (among others), which is a real nugget. Here again, it imposes knowing in turn, to sting us, to annoy us, or to touch us.
In front of him, Seo Ji Hye, even if less striking than in his role of "Crash Landing On You", we appreciated his character and how she led him.
Their chemistry is not bad at all, and above all brings us to a drama more mature than average. Sometimes it feels good to be more in this modernity, and in a couple's reality, not always portrayed in productions whatever they are.
We also liked Kim Ji Suk, who plays the role of Lee Pil Yo. Admittedly, it is still a love triangle but ultimately different, because there is a real story behind already lived and striking in the lives of the characters. It's original, and it has the merit of bringing depth to everything else.
And finally Lee Joo Yeon, annoying at will, in the usual role of the one who cries all the time, but who finally remains endearing…
Finally, we also really liked the different axes of this drama which are interesting because even if it is a fantastic romance, we have the right:
To the world of advertising: As with all drama universes, when you discover them, it always brings something to be immersed in them.
An aborted first love story: a good point, because often the first love in Korean productions is love with a capital "A". However, in this drama we have both versions. And that, too, is a new way of approaching things in a more modern but also sometimes more realistic way. We like it or not, but it also brings all its share of interest.
There is also a police investigation, rather unexpected, and even if it is finally really developed on the last episodes, it is welcome.
A touch of humor, sometimes in derision, without adding too much, just enough to make us smile.
What we didn't like
All the story and the different axes, are carried out perfectly during the 11 episodes and a half, and brings us brilliantly where we need to go. We enjoyed it, we let ourselves be carried away, it worked perfectly. This means that we absolutely did not understand the direction taken during the last 30 minutes of this production which for us, is useless, uninteresting and even breaks all the atmosphere set up throughout the drama. So we will ignore this part, and for the rest, it is really a quality drama.
The other small negative point is that of the secondary couple (Kim Ga Eun and Tae In Ho, the two friends of the main characters) who could have gone further, and had more material. We feel a little frustrated not to really have a follow-up to this couple, who promised much more, and therefore leaves us a little hungry.
In the end, it is clearly a drama of 12 episodes, to discover. It perfectly combines romance, fantasy with a touch of detective and mystery, just right! Still available on the Disney+ platform, we advise you to discover it and we let you tell us what you thought.
